Alguien me marcó para decirme que era mi sobrino y los sobrinos míos son niños no jóvenes a mi mamá ya le había pasado así que ya sabía que querían estafarme y le colgué bueno luego que me dijo una sarta de estupideces

me acaban d hablar de este numero, segun esto k era mi sobrino, sospeche que era una estafa, porque en mi familia, no me dicen por mi nombre, pero les segui el juego, lo unico que le dije es que Fisterra (un personaje de la Reyna del Sur) lo andaba buscando por la mercancia que se robo y despues de decirme una cuantas grocerias, me colgo.

Llamo dos beses y a la segunda bes le conosi la bos y le dige eres Tu otrabes y me dijo si y ke y le dije ke Iva Lamar la policia y me dijo ke no tennis miedo me insulto diciendo me muchas cosas y le colge. Tengan mucho quidadoa a kien le contestan

He was trying to scam my mother for money playing and acting like Juan a family friend - saying they were in accident and they needed $ to pay off the people they wrecked with -Be on ALERT

January 2, 2014. Received a call from 331-924-2042 at 4:17 pm (CST). The man on the other end asked if I spoke Spanish and I said no. So he carried in to call me a [***] and hung up. A call from this number again, I will process to take further action!!!

This is not the caller it's another Juan... I got a call from this number. He said his name was Juan too. He said that he was son of my aunt "Lupe" ,in which in my family we don't have an aunt Lupe. He Told me he was near Cicero buying some tools. He was trying to come my place to drop of some presents for the nephews and nieces. After a few questions that were asked to him he just briefly said he'll call later and never did.

This number must be of some kind of scam!  I received a call today with same problems as msgs. above.  Please investigate this number 331-924-2042.  This should be taken care of.

Someone saying he was my nephew "Carlos" called me and said he was coming to visit me w/ presents for my family.  He said he would arrive in 2 hrs but 1 hr later he called back saying he was in an accident and he needed $1500 asap but I said I had no money.  He said his wife & kids were in the hospital and he would call back but never did.

Claimed to be my nephew and to have gotten into an accident to pay off the people he crashed. I am almost certain he has a  Colombian accent.  He wont stop calling. Someone needs to call the police on this person.

How do you surmise that, just from his post?  His post is as literate as yours or mine and in English.  And even if it were in Spanish, I don't see how you could say that.  Spanish is, in fact, the preferred, official government-mandated language in parts of the United States, even being preferred over English.  You can't deport a Spanish-only speaking Puerto Rican from the mainland for example -- he is as much a citizen of the US as I suppose you to be, at least since 1917, notwithstanding the limitations on his right to vote.

It does appear, by the ethnicity of those posting, and the type of scam involved, that this could be one that targets illegals, or those thought to be illegals, trying to take advantage of them, knowing they are unlikely to report losses, in fear of being located and arrested.

Don't fall into this logical trap.  The specific caller "John" that was accused by Warren as "more than likely" not wanting to expose himself and having to face deportation has given NO CLUE as to his ethnicity or whether he is even an alien.

Also, the fact that the scam may target undocumented aliens also has no bearing on whether the person Warren implied was "more than likely" to be such a person really is such a person.  You are assuming that the scammers can actually tell that correctly just from someone's telephone number, which is a very far-fetched argument.  Worse, it gives the benefit of the doubt to the scammer, not the victim, when you categorize a caller's ethnicity by the unsolicited phone calls he receives.

Yes, there are scammers that prey on those who might be subject to deportation, and, indeed, many of those seem to be Hispanic (although there is also a large population of US citizens who happen to be Hispanic, too).  But to draw any conclusions about John from his post other than that he, himself, should report the scammer probably says more about you and your prejudices than about John.
