    Had a missed call from this number early in the morning, and surprise surprise.....no voicemail left.  I called them back, and it was a pre-recorded message stating they were the American Disabled Veterans Fund, and that they would call again later.  I was them given the option to press 1 to be placed on their Do Not Call list....

    *** SCAM *** SCAM *** SCAM ***   Male caller asked for HEATHER.  I informed caller he had the wrong number.  Caller immediately went into sales pitch for Disabled American Veterans Fund.  I really thought call had been switched to a canned, pre-recorded message and said, "Is this a real, live person?"  caller seemed surprised and said, "YES, can we count on your support?"  My reply:  I LAUGHED, SAID NO, AND HUNG UP.

    Your suspicions could have been correct. I find that more commercial fundraisers are adopting soundboard software. Thus, the voice is canned but the sound samples are being selected by a human rep, which means you need to be specific in how you "Turing Test" the caller.
