I've been getting calls from debt collectors for about a year now, looking for a man named Anthony Cox. I'm assuming that my current phone number is his old phone number. I'm always very polite and inform them that they have the wrong number, and to please take me off their list. The people I jave apoken with in the past have always been understanding and helpful. However, today I received a call from this number, which I will do my best to transcribe below.

The collector was an Indian male.

Me: Hello?
Collector: (screaming (!) in a super loud call center) HELLO, MAY I SPEAK TO ANTHONY COX PLEASE
Me: I'm sorry, you have the wrong numb-
Collector: (interrupts me)NO, WE DO NOT HAVE THE WRONG NUMBER, THIS NUMBER IS UNDER INVESTIGATION AND WE KNOW THAT THIS NUMBER BELONGS TO ANTHONY COX
Me: Um, well...I'm not Anthony Cox. So..
Collector: SIR YOU ARE UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR -
Me: THIS IS NOT ANTHONY COX. Please remove me from any call list your business has.
Collector: WE KNOW IT IS YOU, YOU ARE UNDER INVESTIGATION.

and then, I swear on my life

Collector: S**K MY D**K M*THERF**KER -hangs up-
I was completely appalled. After being so nice and understanding and patient with these people who have beeN harassing me for a year now without warrant, I get verbally assaulted for no reason. I called back and another man informed me that I would be "no longer receiving phone calls, and the proper actions would be taken to correct the employee." Then he, too, hung up in my face.

I called back because I wanted to collect the business name and other information so I could file a formal complaint, and the same "supervisor" answered right away and screamed at me.

Supervisor: I TELL YOU YOU GET NO MORE CALLS OK, STOP CALL HERE
Me: Sir, I just need to know the name of your business so I may file a formal complaint. I have all of our phone calls recorded, and I plan to post them to twitter, reddit, and various other outlets because this is unbelievable.
Supervisor: THIS IS STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA GOVERNMENT COLLECTION DEPARTMENT OK, YOU STOP CALLING HERE, I AM FILING A COMPLAINT AGAINST YOU -hangs up-

I was enraged. Is this even legal??

Keeps calling and will not stop. Claims I owe them money when I do not.  They have the last four of my SSN.

These people keep calling for one of our employees.  They are calling a business and we have no control over whether or not our employees call them back.
They were rude and obnoxious to me and staff.

yep - got another one...  these folks try this every six months or so.
they left 20 voice mails wtihin 20 minutes on my cell phone and have also been calling for me at work.
already reported to the state (since I work for the state), and to the local police.
very obnoxious.

Brennan Thompson - if that is his real name - called.  He has a thick Indian accent.  He asked if I knew someone and he gave me the person's name.  He said she used my name and phone number for something fraudulent.  He was hard to understand but he hammered home that he needed to talk to her.  Not sure why he was calling me.

Called my work yelled at my store director . Person calling was named Steve Foster. Very harassing person.

They called me, my father, my friend, my sister, etc stating I got out a payday loan (that I've never gotten in my life) and that I was now getting legal action taken against me for fraud for not paying. He knew my social security #, bank name and account #, etc. When I asked for the company name and address, all he would tell me was that they were Greensboro, NC. He would not give me an address. He then threatened me and said "YOU'LL GET WHATS COMING TO YOU"

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

This is just an EXTORTION SCAM. There is no such Gov collection agency as "North Carolina Government Collection". Scammers pretend to be part of an official Gov collection agency to extort $money from their victims. They may have your personal info that's been stolen/bought/phished/hacked from the web or a company you've had dealings with.
Beware extortion scams come in many flavors and they constantly evolve to stay one step ahead of the law.

Harrassing caller will not stop calling

Just got several calls today from same number repeatedly calling me my employer making threats  they compleatly blow up  the phones I'm afarid I will lose my job over this they want stop till I'm terminated the guy said i callec the deputy  even made threats to him

Sorensen Keith calling about a debt.  they are a scam

I got many many calls at my work from # 336-609-7631 Claiming that I had taken out a loan and that I needed to repay it or they were going to file charges. The loan that I was supposed to have taken out came from Cash Advance. I know I have never  gotten any loan from this company or any other. The lady on the phone calls her self Misty Walker she said they would send me to court with in 1 hour if I did not pay the monies owed. I told her to go ahead and do so, she than gave the phone to a man who he claims is her supervisor,  He too told me the same thing, They knew the last four of my social and the bank that I use. After I told him to send me to court he said he wanted to speak to my superior, This is a BIG SCAM so be careful and DO NOT give them no information at all .....Watch out!!!! This are Indian people !!!!!!

Received call from 336-609-7631 and 366-455-7512 both from Misty I did not answer but did call back later.

I left a message that I new that this was a scam received them before same routine. I told her to bring it on and that I had helped put other people like her and her scam "Budies" in jail more than once and they were serving hard prision time and would love to do it again. I called again later, just for fun so they could see how it felt and by gosh BOTH numbers were disconnected.

Just fight back with intimidation towards them and I have found them to back off.
