I got a call from GoodHires.ca  (GOOD Hires) a couple of weeks ago informing me that my employer wishes to do a Skype interview with me. I was a little hesitant at first, but i "took the plunge" and here I am couple of weeks later, happily working in Canada. Thank you GoodHires.ca for the wonderful review of my application and for making it possible for me to Work in Canada

And I thought the Nutcracker suite was fantasy! Wow! This poster is high enough to fix the lander on that comet. Does anyone seriously know the new requirements for foreign workers in Canada? I look forward to this writers next work of fiction.

    From the CanadaVisa site:'

    http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration- ... -t246704.0.html

Excerpt of comment: "Anyone who requests a fee in exchange for finding you a job is generally a scam. Reputable companies charge the employer fees - not the employee. Read the fine print. I'll bet you there's something written there that allows them to keep your supposedly refundable deposit even if they don't find you a suitable job. I would find another agency."

And from the official Canadian Embassy site: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/notices/notice-fraud.asp

    Notice – Immigration Fraud Warning
    Getting immigration offers like these?
    March 10, 2009

GUARANTEED VISAS AND JOB$ IN CANADA!

Guaranteed work permits! Free scholarships! High-paying jobs in Canada with minimal or no experience needed! Free air tickets and accommodation! Guaranteed employment! SPECIAL programs! Earn $4,000 a month as a hotel cleaner!

DON’T BE THE VICTIM OF A SCAM. If the offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.

    What you need to know:

You do not need to hire an immigration representative to apply for a visa or for Canadian citizenship.
Immigration representatives do not have special connections with Canadian government officials and cannot guarantee you a visa.
Only authorized officers at Canadian embassies, high commissions and consulates can decide whether or not to issue a visa.
Don’t be tempted into using false documents as this will result in the refusal of your application.
Beware of internet scams and false websites. The official website of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) is www.cic.gc.ca.
You will find free application forms and guides for any type of visa on CIC’s website.
Processing fees are the same at all Canadian visa offices around the world. Fees in local currency are based on official exchange rates and correspond with the amount in Canadian dollars.
Canadian visa offices will never ask you to deposit money into an individual’s personal bank accounts or to transfer money through a specific private money transfer company.
If you have questions, contact CIC or the visa office responsible for your area.
To read more, including information on who can legally represent you if you choose to hire an immigration representative, check out CIC’s web pages on Immigration Representatives.

Here's the email thread of the inquiry I sent to GoodHires:

    From: Mica
    Subject: INQUIRY: APPLICATION

    Message Body:
    Hi,
I haven't received any single answer to my question yesterday. Are you guys just ignore inquiries and keep sending newsletters instead?

Again, I would like to ask why job seekers are asked to pay instead of the hiring company?

    Another one:

    From: Mitz
    Subject: INQUIRY

    Message Body:
    Hi,
I wanted to sign up now so that my application will be processed. However, I am still doing a lot of research since payment is involved here. I would like to ask:

Why wouldn't you charge the employer for the payment instead of the applicant?

I hope to get a clear reply for this.

    Thank you

I was asked by a Filipina friend to check out Good Hires. It didn't take me long to find out that is illegal for any employment agency of any type to charge workers for job placement. As well as illegal to charge a fee, why would a Canadian company ask for payment in US dollars? They wouldn't. A Canadian company would ask for payment in Canadian funds, not U.S. This alone should raise a few eyebrows. Never send money for job placement if you are the employee. In Canada, the employer pays those fees. That is the law here.
