- bluenoser| 3 repliesJust got a similar call claimed we had a computer issue wanted to confirm with me that it was my computer. Got really agitated when I asked for phone number and basically beyond pushy my name is Sam over and over. Finally I said YES I KNOW your name is SAM what's your number?? He gave it to me and didn't sound happy that I was hanging up on him. Also kept telling me to listen...even though he was asking ME questions in a demanding tone. Ugh

- Barrie, Ontario| 3 repliesI got Rosie calling me from this firm yesterday afternoon. Was a bit tired and got suckered into her tech talk. She walked me through my own website showing me Trojan files and a Microsoft looking window that said I was 85 per cent infected.
I fell for it as I am not all that technically astute. Their website looked very real, it had all the phone numbers and contact info on it. They had the Verisign logo there which I thought you could not get unless you were real. I even bought their anti-virus program for $125 as it looked so much more superior than mine. They offered a 7 day total 100 per cent refund with any purchase, so I thought I was safe.
I have since cancelled my card number as today, their website does not even come up with the URL they gave me and which I had bookmarked. Have it cached it. A Google search does not bring up their website either though there are a number of job ads for the firm online. So I am totally unsure who or what they really are.- Caller: Semanticinfotec.com
- John H replies to Barrie, OntarioSCAM ALERT Unknown caller, identified themselves as Semantic Infotec. Infected my home PC, snooped on my home PC, and then tried to sell me a virus fixer product! I managed to clean the trojan with the free Microsoft product.
- Belleville, ON.Just got a call and the person on the phone (Mac) gave me the same info as noted above, Dont need anything but he was insistent with his message that my computer was full of stuff that I did not need or want and he wanted access to it... Did not happen.. glad that I checked first before giving him access.

- Got Taken| 3 repliesYes, my husband got the same type of call and bought into it. They called after he bought and when I happen to pick up the phone the guy wanted access to our computer and could we please turn it on. In short told him no but he kept repeating himself. Told him he needed to talk to my husband. He called back the next day asking for access again, got my husband on the phone and we both started asking questions and the guy just kept repeating himself. We had cancelled our credit card and he did say he would refund our money. TIme will tell..... I believe it is a scam and my husband says he must have been tired as can't believe he got taken.

There are a number of reputable and well known anti-malware vendors. You are not among them. In any case, in today's threat environment Firefox w/NoScript, and OpenDNS, which are free, are more valuable measures than any anti-malware - especially fake ones. - tellonembeware of trolls posting at the following user names:
