I also received this call but i do have windows 7 in my laptop. He said that I had errors that I needed to take care of but he wanted to get into my computer to resolve the problem. I could not continue with the call and when i told my friend about this call, he investigated and told me not to call him back and to not give him access to my computer. The weird part is that he knew my name and last name.

This number called me today and told me that a virus was on my computer and that my computer was calling out to microsoft to have it fixed.  He knew my first and last name and my number of which neither are public information. He wanted to get into the computer and look at a code that should be in the registry. He told me to call back to 347-923-8760. This is a vicious scam and probably a form of identity theft.   The caller id says only Los Angeles area 323-489-7472 which is a free 100 walmaart card.

I got a call today, from 347 923 8760, and he said he was from microsoft and my computer was about to crash and he could fix it. He knew what kind of computer I had and the number of my computer. He said for $199, for a year, he would take out my avg and put in Microsoft Security Shield. Said avg wasn't getting all the virises and this would get them all. Also, for the next year, I can call anytime to fix any problems. My daughter freeking out thinking I was scammed, I don't know but my computer works great now.

    >> he said he was from microsoft  <<

Your daughter is correct!  Microsoft does NOT call people to "fix" their computer!

The caller tells you they will disinfect or fix your computer at a very reasonable price. After (or, sometimes, before) you send the money, they tell you to click on some buttons and links, so they can disinfect your computer. However, if you do that, you give the scammer full access to your computer, and they will do nasty things, such as steal your card or bank data (if you had it on your computer), steal your contact list, and send friends phony emails. Needless to say, if you sent money, it is gone. If you gave THEM your card number, consider contacting your card issuer!

I got a call from the same number but they never said that they were from "MIcrosoft". They were some support company in states itself. I had issues with my Dell computer for which BestBuy asked for 399 but these guys did it for me in only 199 along with 1 Year of endless support. It was a great experience and it has been 3 months now and my computer works great.

    Um.
How much are they paying you to shill for that number?

You forgot to tell us the name / address / website of that supposedly helpful company, so we could check their validity.

Readers should NEVER allow access to their computers to anybody that calls them, and volunteers to "help"!

I know this person/company personally. From everything I have seen, I believe the business to be a scam. It is physically located in New Port Richey, Florida, as is the owner. The owner/co-owner's name is Milind Rupani. His direct phone number is (was) 813-464-1230. His personal email address is mrupani86@gmail.com. The "techs" are located in India.

First of all, I am the current domain registration agent for this company. I was contracted to obtain the domain names, build the e-commerce website, and provide hosting services approximately 14 months ago. By the time I had completed all of the work that was contracted for (and much more as it turned out), I had already come to the point where I regretted ever meeting this kid. He broke off contact when I refused to help him harvest CVV numbers from his "customers" when his credit card processor wasn't asking for that information (BIG RED FLAG).

To date, I have collected only a small percentage of what anyone in this business would consider a bargain basement price (a friend of a friend). When the relationship fell apart (when the money was due), the kid packed up and left to another developer/hosting company and paid (or didn't pay as the case may be) someone else to build essentially the exact same site. Meanwhile I'm out all my costs (static IP, SSL, domains, dozens of labor hours) and this kid, a recent law school grad and social outcast, who will NEED an arranged marriage to even have a shot at ever knowing what a woman feels like, is making money ripping people off. I just googled him today while going over old receivables and found this article and many others like it. I also found that our local Better Business Bureau has given him an "F" rating, basically calling him out for being a scammer.

I have little recourse since I'm now just the domain registration agent for pctechlounge.com. He tried to back-door me there too by paying my registrar directly for his renewal, but of course that didn't work, they notified me immediately. I did find, however, in my reseller control panel the ability to suspend and lock a customer's domain name. Don't know how long it will last, but I did it. As of right now the site is down, hopefully for good but at least long enough to convince him to pay his bills. I have set all services to auto-terminate so I don't have to have anything further to do with him.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHADY BUSINESS!!!

This is one of their new scam numbers we shut down last one and will do the same if we all help

They are all local calls I checked  AT&T   first to make sure no hidden phone charges

This is how to stop them  don’t make it easy for them by hanging up

Just keep calling number every chance you get THEY ARE FLIPPING OUT   the longer you keep them on phone will give them less time to mess with people we have successfully shut down many of these numbers by doing this back to them
the best thing is to keep them on line as long as you can scam them back
