I returned the call and questioned the person who answered the phone about what this entails.  Respondent said "shut up" and hung up.  Definitely a harassment call.

Total scam.  Originates in either India or Pakistan.  Ignore the calls and block them.

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

I just received a call from a Mr. Harris claiming he was calling for the U.S. Treasury Dept.  Not only was he difficult to understand with his heavy Indian accent but he wanted me to pay supposed delinquent taxes or be arrested.  He wanted to know how much money I had, where I worked, do I have credit or debit cards, etc, of course none of that was giving to him.  As upsetting as this bogus info/delinquency of thousands of dollars was, I told him to do what he had to do but I would NOT be arrested for something I don't owe or had never heard of previously.  I write this to inform others of this scam artist group preying on the elderly.  TOTAL SCAM: 352-458-4963 / Dade City, FL

Got the exact same call - left on home answering machine. Pity I didn't pick up. I would have told him to stay on the line while we triangulate his location for a drone strike. This usually gets them riled ... and swearing in their native tongue.  I enjoy [***] with em and I hope he calls back.  I keep a book of "how to swear in several languages" handy and practice my cursing whenever possible with this kind of idiot.

I received 2 calls and immediately contacted the Treasury Inspector General to file a complaint.  For anyone who gets this call, you should contact TIGTA for IRS and report this as a fraudulent scam.  The more people complain, the better so the IRS can investigate this creep and have the Dept. of Justice criminally prosecute him.
