Left Message claiming to be advising me IRS has a lawsuit against me. Returned call - Officer Kevin Parker #98720 is supposedly who I spoke with. Foreign, VERY strong accent.

Insisted I was being audited and owed 4,852. Joke was on him when I told him I hadn't worked since 2007. He asked me if I could prove it. On hold, came back and said courthouse would be notified in the morning. I asked for a 1-800 government number to contact them directly - CLICK, poof he was gone!!!

These are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.

i got a call this morning on my answering machine saying i needed to call the number cuz i was being sued by the IRS and i needed to contact them as soon as possible. i didnt call the number back i looked it up on the computer and poof i find scam written all over this

Received a recorded message that the IRS had a lawsuit against me. When I called back, a man with a very strong accent answered. He could not understand me and asked me again and again to speak slowly. (When he asked, he was very rude.) He had my home phone number and previous address. Told me that I could pay the $2586 or meet them in court the next morning. When I asked to speak to his supervisor, he told me he was the supervisor! When I asked for his name, he refused to give it. I told him I hope the phone call was being recorded because he was acting so very unprofessional. I hung up and, still not realizing it was a scam, I called back 5 minutes later. Same guy answered but much more polite. Thinking it was a different clerk, I told him I had received a call but had not gotten much information from the person I had spoken to. I told him I wanted to report that person. Suddenly, the guy seemed polite, "I am so sorry he was rude. Am I being rude now? Do you know the name of the person?" As soon as he heard that I didn't have the name, he hung up. Can someone please put this specific phone number on the official IRS website to warn people like me who don't know how to search the web? (I called a younger friend who helped me out.)

Just received a call saying the exact same thing. Only when I called back, it kept ringing and ringing. I'm glad this isn't legit. When I missed the call it came up as "private number", but gave this number to call back.

Got the same call.  A msg was left stating that the irs was suing me. I knew it was a scam.  The irs would never just leave a msg with a blocked number.  They typically communicate via certified mail or something more professional.

I called the 360 244 4261 number back and some guy saying his name was Frank Robinson with the IRS had a heavy accent asked for my name & phone # and then the name of my attorney because I was being sued by IRS.  Little did he know
I just talked to IRS yesterday so I asked him for his Gov ID # and he told me to [***] off and hung up.  The events are 100% accurate.

One call yesterday and two today with voice mail stating the IRS "Internal Revenue Services is filing lawsuit against you," and call immediately 360.244.4261, the department number, to settle the matter. One of the calling telephone numbers was blocked from caller ID, but the other said Long Beach, WA.

Received the same today, left on VM.
Know that the IRS will contact you first by letter and then by a knock on the door.
I know this from experience.

Still using the same number, 360-244-4261, the voice left a message saying that a lawsuit is being filed against me. (No mention of who) The voice was computer generated, with that uneven inflection that you get from an automation. I returned the call and got voicemail that did not identify a name or company. I didn't leave a message. Then I looked up the number here. I would like to thank everybody for the warnings. If they leave another message I'll know it's garbage. So glad this forum is available!

I find it hard to believe on one hand that the feds can't put an end to this spoofing, but then it's the Gov. and look at their track record on fixing things... Bwahahahaha! Welcome to the new third world country folks!

Got the same phone call today.  Infuriating!!!!

Same number called repeatedly this morning. If I don't get an immediate reply after I say hello, I hang up. A minute later, same number calls again. I need to sleep so I took phone off give hook.
The irs would mostly mail repeated threats--calling after many tries. I wish my call block feature worked.

Computer voice claiming to be IRS threatening to sue me. Phone number was 360-244-4273...

Got same call, some computer woman telling me that the IRS had a case on me and that I needed to call that phone number. Obviously a scam, the  message didn't even ask for me by name. Besides, I would expect IRS business of this kind to first be initiated by mail.  Now that I am older, almost a senior citizen, I get tons of these calls  from rip-off artists thinking that I have lost my thinking capacity.

Yep; same experience. Two phone calls this week; one coming from 360-200-4562 and the other from 360-244-4277.
Finally picked up the second time; automated message stating that I was being sued by the IRS.
I call back 360-244-4277; someone that could barely speak english asked for my name. I asked what company is this that I just called and got hung up on. SCAM - reporting to IRS; going to block the call.

I just received a phone call from a man claiming to be with the Internal Revenue Service he asked for my husband and said he was suing us for tax evasion.  I laughed at him and told him I worked for a CPA firm and filed all my own taxes and didn't owe a dime to the IRS.  He kept asking me "you work where?"  He was also foreign and started getting upset with me because I told him he wasn't with the Internal Revenue Service then told me to go "F" myself and hung up on me......LOL

Got a call from IRS at 6:20 this morn saying I was being investegated by irs , gave me phone no n said to call immediately. I thought IRS doesn't start work at 6:20 a m . Called my son he looked up the number after telling me not to call them that it was a scam. I'm 71 , old doesn't mean stupid. Don't fall for this crap, use your head and shut these mothers down, if u get my meaning.

Got the early morning call from 360-244-4240 and a second call in the aft. saying "Final Notice."  I knew it was fake as they called my Comcast home ph....I never give this # out and it's not the one I list on my tax returns.  Also, they say the IRS is sueing "You" how random???  (The IRS doesn't need to sue anyone, they just audit!)  This is a complete SCAM!
