The old IRS scam - going to file a lawsuit if I don't call them back.

The robot caller left this message on my answering machine. "This is Internal Revenue Services....The reason of this call is to inform you that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against you. To get  more information about this case file, please call immediately on our department number 360-244-4268 I repeat 360-244-4268. Thank you."

HOAX!!!
First of all, the IRS would not be calling you on the phone. Second, they would not be using a robot to do it. Last, they did not mention a name of the person they were calling.

Just got the call and a voicemail saying the IRS is filing a lawsuit. I'm in Ohio.

My mother in law just recieved a phone call from phone number 360-244-4268 regarding past due payments to the IRS. She came in to my room and almost started crying saying she was going to be arrested immediately for not paying $5,000. As soon as I heard that I did a quick google search on the irs.gov website and almost to see if any scams had been reported. http://www.nj.com/business/index.ssf/2014/09/ ... its_a_scam.html .... found this website and told her to immediately hang up. So please pass this website along to anyone you know or love that is older than 40 years old, and especially people who do not have internet access! These people love to prey on people who are not so tech savy.

Received a call this morning,could hardly  understand( foreign language) said i am introuble and that they needed to contact me for ??????????????? Could not understand.
I'm good with the irs. Not really worried,just wanted to let others know.
I think that i have allwayy received a letter from the irs informing me of why they sent the letter. So don't think with emotions, please think first with your head.

They called my phone and left the robot message saying i needed to call them back immediately because the IRS is filing a lawsuit against me.  When i called back (foreign voice) answered posing as an IRS agent.  I told him that i had received a voicemail from them stating that I was supposed to call them back.  He paused and told me not to call them back again.  he wouldn't give me any information about what the call was about.  He acted as if I was bothering him by calling!! I guess he sensed that I was not a person that he could take advantage of and that I asked too many questions!

40 years old!?!?  Aren't those people all in old folks' homes or already dead and buried? 💣💣

I remember turning 40, lol.  Turning 50 real soon, I still consider myself to be young, even though I am getting a little crotchety.

Just got this phone call (we live in the L.A. area), with a recorded message saying the IRS was filing a lawsuit against us. No name mentioned in the message, but we should call this number for more information. Damn phishmongers!

Just got home from work and saw that I had calls from this number every hour for the last four hours. Came to 800notes where I was sure I'd find it ... and here it is. No surprise. Number blocked.

Scammers like this should be IN JAIL!! How is this even legal?

SCAM should really be a choice under "Call Type".

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.

Got a call from 1-360-244-4268 today (7/7/15) but they left no message.  If it was from the IRS Scam that would be the 2nd time they have called.  They left a message the first time a few weeks ago.  I reported it to the US Attorney General's office

Came home today 7/7/15 and had a voicemail with a female robotic voice telling me it was the IRS and they would be filing a lawsuit against me and to call 360-244-4268.
 I'd heard of this scam going around before, but never received the call till today.

The guy was very rude. When I called the number he said F*** you ma'am, and do not call this number again.

These [***] called me and left a message to call back -  I did and they informed me they were IRS and that my father was dying - I asked them why were they - the IRS calling me to tell me about my dying father - in reality, he passed 4 years ago - then they told me it was none of my business. After some foul language exchanges, I hung up - [***]!

I got this call today, told the guy he should be ashamed of himself trying to scam people, he then called me a c*$#sucker (with his Indian accent). Even on the Do not call list, I still get these calls, horrible.
