IRS does not file lawsuits. Nor does it cold-call. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and ask for money. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail. - Concerned SisterMy brother just got a similar call, a voice mail message left on his cell phone telling him he owned the IRS money and to call this number right away. A person who he could barely understand told him something was wrong with his W2's for 2008-2012, that he owed money, and he was subject to being arrested within the next 3 hours. My brother was quite shaken by this call.

- AnonymRobocall from a Massachusetts number (413-986-5587); recording says it's the IRS calling and that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against you. Bullsh*t. The IRS doesn't cold-call (especially people with nearly perfect credit scores who don't owe the IRS a dime); nor do they leave messages threatening lawsuits in a voicemail. Tells you to call another number, 360-362-4730, which obviously, I did not. These a@@holes need to do some hard prison time!
- Caller: "IRS" - NOT!
- Call type: Prank
- J.Higgins replies to business womanI just had the same thing happen to me...
- UnscamerObviously a scam of some sort. As noted in the above comments, the Internal Revenue Service does not do business this way.
Besides, the recorded voice uses the name "Internal Revenue ServiceS", not Internal Revenue "ServicE."- Caller: "Internal Revenue Services"
- RicachezExact same message as before. I actually got a person who gave me an ancient address, which I questioned him on and of course I got a garbled, unintelligible answer. He then told me I was being audited from 2008-2012 (also reported here before) followed by a long pause in which the background noise was also diminished. Suspicious, I hung up and went online. Before I could even find anything HE CALLED ME BACK, wondering how I wanted to settle the $3,00blah blah and mumble mumble cents. This is where went off and told him nothing was going to happen until I saw it in writing. Aaand suddenly the phone really went silent. Their methodology is excellent- totally taps into fear of a lawsuit and an audit. Geez, add a clown and I'd still be shaking.
- austin replies to AmandaThis just happened to me, I called the number back and they replied with " I did not call you, Get off my line!" (In broken English)
- MaryI just got a call from 726-593-6594 leaving me a message to call 360-362-4730. The message said: "Hello, we have been trying to reach you. This call is officially a final notice from IRS, Internal Revenue Services. The reason of this call is to inform you the IRS is filing lawsuit against you. To get more information about this case file, please call immediately our department number 360-362-4730. I repeat, 360-362-4730." OMG I about freaked out so I thought I would Google the number and guess what I found this forum where others have been contacted by the same scammers. Man they really need to prosecute these jerks. What if an elderly person got this call, it would about kill them.
- Caller: No name given
- Jo replies to business womanI got the exact same message. I knew it was a scam but feel sorry for older people or people who do owe the IRS and it probably is so stressful for them!
- Mary AnnI received a call that originated from 634-296-5748. Checking into that number I found that it is an "Invalid number" or "no results". Message was same as above: "Hello, we have been trying to reach you. This call is officially a final notice from IRS, Internal Revenue Services. The reason of this call is to inform you the IRS is filing lawsuit against you. To get more information about this case file, please call immediately our department number 360-362-4730. I did not attempt to call that number - DianeI received the same phone message - the caller left 360-362-4730 as the number to call back. They call daily and my caller id shows INTERNATIONAL 800-618-2305 & 413-187-5587.
