Same as other calls to reduce you interest rate on credit cards with an added incentives.  Still same old stuff.  Press 3 to discontinue these calls, right,  or press 1 to get ripped off.  They never quit.

Called about low interest credit card rates. Attempted 4 times to retrieve number via *69 feature only to still be connected to the caller.  Called a second time, spoke to an operator explaining their number was reaching an extension at the local police station. Caller then abruptly hung up.

Robocall to lower my interest rates on ANY credit card I have. Next time I am going to press 1 and pretend I'm interested. Heck, I'm home all day anyway, why not have some fun.

I used to think that way too.  Problem is when you talk with them - then they know they have a 'live one', meaning they will now have your number to sell to other scammers.  Also make a note:
Many shysters hide behind the guise of SURVEYS, CHARITIES ETC.  In this day and age you never know 'who' you are really talking with.  I talk with NO ONE. I never answer my phone unless I know 'who' is calling, once you 'answer' they 'Have Your Number" and they will not only call you time after time but 'sell' your number to other illegal scammers.  Also if you follow their suggestion to 'opt out' you have only given these shysters confirmation of your number.  Many are just 'mining' for people to prey on, especially the 'robo callers'.  And of course it does not matter if you are on the Do Not Call List because criminals don't care.  They change their number as often as we change our underwear so as not to be discovered by the FCC.

I do the same thing, with caller ID, I don't answer any call that I don't recognize the phone number, and the DO NOT CALL LIST is a joke. Although the Today show just ran an piece on dealing with telemarketers, one lady filed a class action suit and they stilled called her, but this time she recorded them and asked and told the person, she has a class action suit against your company, why are you still calling them. Having this I know she'll win her case, You go girl. I have a micro-cassette recorder, I'm going to start recording them, and file my own class action suit, after all I've been unemployed so long, I could use the money. And the thing about the piece from the Today show, the president was driving a ferrari.

This number showed up on caller ID.  A recording left a partial message telling me that for only $299 I could take advantage of the offer!  Not sure what the offer was since the message was a partial message.

Guess the robo calling machine thought my voicemail greeting was a live person!

Really doesn't matter what you do, they simply don't EVER quit.   They have been harassing me for about three years now.

These same characters used to bounce calls through Costa Rica to get around the "do not call" regulations.  Since the "do not call" isn't really enforced, they don't bother doing that.

For a while they were offshore in India.  One one occasion I had some fun ripping their rep a new a**hole (I quit the subtle tactics long ago)   I got the Indian so pi**ed off he spent about two hours trying to get my phone to ring off the hook.... ever hear an Indian attempt to barrage you with a stream of profanity... it's actually quite funny... especially when you egg him on... sheer profundity.

On another occasion I tried the "This is Detective Larson, what is your relation to the deceased", they hung up.  Two days later they called again, must have thought I was ascended from the dead (or was that reincarnated, I get confused).

Once they have your number, punching 3 does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

I have started shutting my ringer right off and only listen to my messages twice a day. No annoying rings to listen to and the people closest to me have my cell anyway. So far, it's been great.
