- TJHGot a phone call from my mom in a panic that the IRS had called the house for me and that they were filing a lawsuit against me. I called back at 360-663-4438 as directed and spoke with a man with a thick Pakistani accent who claimed his name was "officer Jimmy Davis". He claimed that the IRS had audited me and I owed $2386 which had to be paid immediately or there would be a warrant put out for my arrest. Obviously this was a scam, as the IRS will never contact you by phone to handle these issues, or ask you to pay immediately with no written documentation.

- KKGReceived a call on our main business line, which multiple people use! Stating that the IRS was starting a law suit against me! HA, since there are multiple people in my office I am going to go on the assumption that this call was BS and a scam! Having worked for a CPA firm I promise you the IRS would never contact you via a recorded message! It would have to be all documented and require you to come in person to a local office, they will not discuss items like this over the phone because they would have to verify your Identification is correct.

- AMHSame message as above.. The IRS has been trying to reach me and will be filing a lawsuit. They leave no case file#, but only the phone number 360-663-4438. I have no debts with the IRS and will not be calling.

- SAFSame here. Just received a recorded message from 727-591-6534 stating that it was a last attempt to contact me and the IRS was filing lawsuits against me and to call 360-663-4438. I am an accountant for a law firm and can gurantee you that the IRS never contacts by phone. I pray people don't fall for this awful scam.

- MAKI rec'd a call from 723-595-6594 stating I was being sued by the IRS. It told me to call a non toll free # of 360-663-4438. I called and it simply rang and rang. No IVR (automated phone system). Such a lame scam. You'd think they would at least make it seem real.
- Caller: IRS
- FMKI just received a call from "caller unknown" and it also stated that I was being sued by the IRS and to call back on 360-663-4438. I do however make monthly IRS payments so it freaked me out for a second and then I found all of your comments and it made me feel a lot better....Phew! I suppose the IRS would notify me by mail if there was an actual problem with my account.
- Caller: IRS
- brsSame thing here! Left a voicemail saying Its was filing suit against me. Completely a scam! Thankful for this post!
- KGEGot a call from private caller "unknown" and an automated female voice said "we have been trying to reach you. This call is officially a final notice from IRS, Internal Revenue Services, the reason for this call is to inform you that IRS is filing lawsuit against you. To get more information about this case file, please call immediately on our department number 360-663-4438." Then it repeated the number.
So obviously a scam! The IRS would send notices through the mail first. They would not use an automated voice. They would not have a final notice of a lawsuit from out of the blue.
I called the IRS the number for the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) to report the scam. The IRS has information on its website on how to spot scam phone calls. The say that the IRS will never call to demand payment without first sending you a bill. They will give you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount. They would never require a specific payment method, such as a prepaid debit card. They would never ask for credit or debit card info over the phone. The would never threaten to bring in the police to have you arrested for not paying. - LBOI received a call from 284-307-0000 with the same message as the above posters. Had just read in our local paper about this scam. Do not call back!
- Patty| 1 replyJust got the message myself...THIS IS A SCAM! Does anyone know how we can alert the authorities about this?
- Caller: IRS
- Slim replies to PattyThere is a widespread IRS (or CRA) or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both USA and Canadian residents.
USA tax payers should read this:
http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/Phone-Scams-C ... 5-Filing-Season
Canadian tax payers should read this:
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/nwsrm/lrts/2013/l131210-eng.html
Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

- MorticiaSadly these scammers have duped people out of millions of dollars just because people aren't informed about how things actually work. IRS will send a hard copy always. They never call since leaving a message with personal information is a violation. If you were being sued you'd know about it and wouldn't get a call out of the blue. These people are very careful not to say Internal Revenue Service just IRS; those letters can later be disputed as standing for anything. Report the calls to the Internal Revenue Service! They have a listing and are aware of this scam; they need to know all the numbers that they use though since it usually comes through an overseas call center. The vermin have spoofed legitimate business numbers such as a police department in California for instance. Inform yourself and stop these vicious pathetic creeps from taking another person for everything they have!!!
