http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0113-government-grant-scams - DavidI got a call from a different number of an unknown number saying that I've gone the $7,000 grat for me to call the bank and the manager that way they could give me directions on how to get them $7000. once I was done I called them and they would transfer me to a bank and they'll get all the information down and send me the 7000 dollars within the same day. I thought it was skeptical they gave me an address to where I can get a purchase a card or prepaid card. I got suspicious when they sent me to a retail store Instead of a actual store. I went ahead and called them back and ask them why can't I just put it on my regular debit card the lady respond "it's just so that you won't be getting taxed for the $7,000" I went ahead and just told her that's fine with me I don't mind paying taxes cuz that's why we live in the government they use as our taxes towards a helpful stuff like schools and streetsright away the conversation got really hostile she started using a different tone of voice with me and was telling me that I'm the one losing out on money, right in the middle of my sentence she just hung up without saying goodbye. The number is from Washington STATE not Washington DC
- Caller: "USA Treasury" supposedly
- sallieThis is the second time they have called me the first time me and the repersenator got into an argument because he wasn't speaking clearly. Second time they call which was today I follow through but when I call the number I was provided with. I ask her was it a scam she went off on me and hung up in my face! So rude! I guess she mad cause I'm no fool my mama taught me that you can't get nothing free it's always something behind it. Yes the number is from Washington and not Washington D.C
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Stephwhen I got the phone call it was a recorded message saying to call them back. First time I tried, no answer. Second time, I got a non-English speaking man who tried to tell me the IRS was suing me for back taxes, and my drivers license had been revoked as well as all my credit cards and bank accounts frozen. BUT if I gave them a down payment right now on my "back taxes" the IRS would settle and life would go back to normal. I called [***], told them if I was really being sued I would have gotten a notice in the mail or at my door, not over the telephone. He got belligerent and I hung up!
They ask you to call them back so YOU pay for the call, not them. And no answering service at the IRS? [***]. Also, if I were really being sued, they wouldn't take a "down payment" and they sure as hell wouldn't do business over the phone. Not sure how they got my number but this is ridiculous.- Caller: Fake IRS
