My brother got a call from Nikki Johnson at 361-214-1722, too. The IRS website says they send notices by mail. It's a scam.

Got the same call today at 1530hrs my time in IL.  They are IRS AGENTS, not officers.  I pity the puppy that calls them back.

Just realize too...

IRS agents are just the same as say FBI agents...
Impersonating them is a class two federal felony....

Of course, Indian scammers don't give a [***].

Got a call from "Nikki Johnson" Stating she was from the IRS and not to disregard.  I called the number back knowing that it was a scam just to have some fun.  A man with an Indian/Pakistani Accent answered the phone.  He stated that he was from the "internal Revenue Service".  I asked his name and he first stated Daniel, then I asked for his badge number and he gave me 520089.  Then I asked him his name again and he stated his name was Michael Johnson.  I asked him if his sisters was Nikki.  He didn't understand, and then I told him that he shouldn't be calling people and trying to scam them and that is when he hung up.

Got an automated message from 361-241-1722 stating the call was from the IRS .   Caller name was Nikki Johnson.  SCAM.. Do not call back

Got this call from someone telling me to call back and ask for Niki Johnson.  call back and they tell me they are from the IRS and the government is coming to take me to jail if I don't pay back taxes of 4000 dollars.  If I don't pay it they will take me to court and I will have to pay 35,000 then.  All they want is your information to steal money.  IT'S A SCAM.  Inidian people that don't understand english at all.

It is definitely a scam. I just saw a piece on TV about a minister who gave them 16,000.00. I hope they get caught soon so other unsuspecting people will not be scammed.

Received call from this number this morning.  Recorded message from "Officer Nicki Johnson from the Internal Revenue Service".  Said "I need you for your retained attorney of record to return this call".  The "hotline" number was the same as the call number.  Said if we ignored the call that further action would be taken against us.

Same thing.  Is this a scam or not?

If you had read the rest of the posts in this thread, you would have learned it is indeed a scam.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Got the same call. Obviously did not call back as it is a scam. Please catch these people and make them pay for their crime!

It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.

SCAM! After I let "Niki Johnson" finish her script, I told her that her number is listed online as an IRS scam then she hung up on me.

This person yelled and screamed at me that I owed $3000 and if I didnt pay, it would be $30,000 ... and if I didn't pay that., he was sending the Sheriff to pick me up.

Had a family member who is a cop..phone them.. they hung up

I just called this number back and the guy said "I don't know why people keep calling here asking for the IRS.  We are the Roger family.  Please stop calling here."

We can no longer believe the phone number we see on our caller IDs (CID) belongs to the person who called!  The bad guys are now using easily accessed technology to "spoof" the CID numbers, so their real number does not appear.

The problem has gotten so bad, the US government actually passed an Act, called "The Truth in Caller ID Act of 2009", making such spoofing illegal.  See http://www.fcc.gov/guides/caller-id-and-spoofing

The FCC adopted that Act in June, 2010, stating that violators could be fined up to $10,000 for each violation.

However, the bad guys are ignoring this law ... after all, they are criminals, and that is what criminals do.  Although we now have a "law" against spoofing, it is very difficult to enforce it.

So, if you see a CID number on your phone when you are called by some scammer or telemarketer, it might not belong to the scammer!  It might be the number of some unsuspecting third party ... or, it might be one of those numbers that charge $25 (plus about $9 per minute) if you call it back, or the number might not be "real" at all.
