- Deborah| 2 repliesThis number was given to me by a person offering a job (listed on craigs list Aug 5, 2010). Sent a bogus cashier check that thankfully I thought to check out before cashing. Offered job of Personal Assistant while he was away on business to keep his "office Running"....all a lie. I am reporting to both my local law enforcement and the FTC.
- Caller: no call
- Sue replies to DeborahI also made the same mistake
- RachelAlthough I've never called it, the same number was trying offer me a job being a model from Trump Modeling Agency. I also did some extensive searching on the IP address of the email (iola.hoffmann5928@gmail.com) with the number in it, and turns out it's coming from a city in Nor Cal called Mountain View. I looked into Craigslist and also saw iola.hoffmann5928 trying to offer roles in "Beauty and Brain." It seems that "Iola.hoffmann" also likes to compensate people with fake checks totaling to $300. I guess it's his lucky number or something.
- Edward| 3 repliesThis number is used by a scam artist. He pretends he's buying something from me on Craigslist and that he's sending the check (which is fake) made out for a higher amount than the sofa I'm selling. I'm supposed to give the "extra funds" to the person (his partner in crime) who's "buying" the item. The scam assumes that you won't cash the check before giving his criminal partner the "extra funds". By the time you try to cash the check, his partner is long gone with the "extra funds" and your bank won't cash the fake check he mailed you. Or if the bank does cash it, you'll be deducted the full amount of the check and be charged a fee on top of it a few days later when they realize it's fake. So you've lost everything - your item, the "extra funds" and a fee from the bank for cashing a fake check.

- Cally replies to EdwardThis man "Mr Eddy" also tried to send me a cashiers check with extra funds for some delivery truck driver for a couch that i was selling on craiglist. my boyfriend said it sounded fishy and i looked the phone number up on google and this site came up! thank goodness! what a [***]. waste of my time!
- Heatherwow, I can't believe I almost fell for this guy. Thankfully all of you have posted about him. I too, almost sold him something over Craigslist. His e-mails were overly formal about money order protocol, so I thought it was wise to check out the phone number he gave me. He doesn't cover his tracks very well, fortunately. He seems to have a lot of e-mail addresses, and calls himself "Mr Eddy."

- Mr.Ed, EddyI received an email from eddy55eddy@aol.com asking about my couch for sale. So he is still using the email and name email. I'm on the west coast also, so he's reaching farther now. Honestly though only scammers deal in cashiers checks like that and want personal information up front. Also, they're are either really formal or have really bad grammar, and can never be personally reached either.
- Los Angeles, CA| 1 replythis guy reached out to me in response I had for a couch listing on Craigslist. I had a gut feeling this was a scam - and not only did I get an email from him- but another scammer for the same sofa!!!
correspondance from both below:
FROM: eddy55eddy@aol.com
SUBJECT: \\\\\Ready to pay for your Couch/////
Hello,
I sent this email before but since i didnt hear from you, i suppose you didnt get it. I got your initial email stating that your Couch is still available for sale. I would like to know the lowest price you would go for the Couch.
I would have been happy to travel down for the pickup and payment of the Couch myself, but I just relocated due to an urgent project. However, my daughter works with United State Postal Services (USPS) and we will be glad to pay with a USPS Money Order. She has also arranged with a Mover/Driver who will come for the pickup of the Couch at your address or any public place of your choice. I'll appreciate it if you consider it sold to us via this means.
We will only come for pick up after you have received the Money Orders and they have been duly processed at your Bank, only there and then will we arrange for the pick up of the Couch. I would like to know how your name should appear on the USPS Money Order and what valid residential/office address or public place should we mail it to via UPS courier service. We are ready to make payment as soon as we get your mailing details. Pls signify clearly if the Couch is no more available so we don't waste time with endless discussions. Thanks for selling it to us via this medium.
Mr Eddy
I looked on Craiglist and noticed that this is a commonly used scam- where they "overpay you" and then you have to wire the overpayment, leaving you with a fradulent check, and out of whatever you're selling, and legally responsible for this transaction. Report this person!!!!
HERE'S THE SECOND SCAMMER- NOT SURE IF ITS THE SAME PERSON?

Hello,
I hope you are fine and alright. I have been busy myself but doing great. There is something i think i must bring to your notice.
After a reconciliation of my account , i discovered that somehow my assistant must have over paid you. The payment that was meant for another transaction was sent to you and the one meant for you was sent to another, however i want to believe i wont have a problem with you.
Please once you receive your payment, i will like you to deduct your money and send the remaining via western union to the shipping company that will help me with the pick-up. I will ask them to contact you as soon as possible .Let me know
as soon as you get your payment.
Warm regards.
William Steeve. - AnonymSame Couch scam as he has done for months.

- Concern| 1 replyThis guy message me also send the email many times that he sent the money order bed cost $40 and he will hire a mover? what a crap...he said he sent me $950 money order and send the balance to the driver
I gave him the FBI address hope they will open it and check the money order is a fake and investigate.. - Sarah replies to KimThe e-mail I got was from Mr. Edward Porter not Mr. Green but the body of the message was verbatim. I hope everyone filed a complaint with the USPS. He shipped the fake postal money order to me via USPS express mail return address James Sorenson 2342 Brentwood Rd NW Canton OH 44708. It seems the real trick it to catch the inbound shipment of fake money orders!
- JESSI829| 2 repliesI got an email to send Jerry Freedle 1500.00 for a 300.00 item i was selling on Craigs list. I got 2 cashiers checks in the mail i took them to be verified and they were fake. What a bunch of morons.
