got a call from someone about IRS!!

There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Got a call today, something about Enforcement by US Treasury...avoid grand jury...criminal offense...blah blah blah from a guy named Dean Martin, no less, lol (sounded like it anyway, could not tell for sure because of the accent).  Did not call back and do not intend to.

I have seen more than one post about these scams where the alleged caller happens to have the name of a celebrity. It is rather laughable in many respects.

When I received the second call (mere minutes after the first call), I immediately called back.  Unfortunately, I have a telephone number that previously (7 years ago!) was assigned to someone who obviously didn't pay her bills, so I take every opportunity to respond with the intention of preventing future calls.  I got the guy who called me on the phone - and he HUNG UP!  The same guy has now called me 3 times in the past 3 days!

Received a message from "Dee Martin" claiming that he was from the US Treasury and to avoid legal action they wanted to help

I receive a call from this number a couple of times a day from Steve Martin ( no less!!). Finally, I called back and because of Steve Martin's accent, I could barely understand him. He explained this was a legit call and I needed to open an account to transfer money from to avoid further action. When I told him that this was a bunch of crap and that I needed to keep him on the line a few seconds more so that "they" could trace the call, he hung up.
I wish this would stop.
