Operator saying you owe money on a past due bill. People trying to get personal information. Beware

Calls and asks for personal information "for verification" asking for a home address or social security number and refuses to give any info until you give them the info they want so they can use ot to link an account they have to you and your information, that they try to make you give them at the beginning or the call. Had major problem with these people about a year or so ago, where they claimed to have an auto loan account in my name but refused to verify by sending me copies of account documentation to verify my name and info on the account. Turns out the account was in some guys name whom i dont know and somehow my info was fraudulently added to the account to make it look like it was mine  when it wasnt. Asked them for written verification of debt ( which they are compelled to provide you with) and they refused, yelling at me that I already had it from when i signed for the loan, which i didnt because it wasnt my account to begin with. My advice is to request verification of debt  from these people based on the information they already have and if its legit, they'll mail you what they have and if they dont, order them to "cease and desist" from calling you until they proviide documented verification that the account belongs to you. I also researched all collection agencies in Rhode Island and this company name doesnt exist in yellow pages database! They also use a couple of different 401 area code phone numbers, all based or listed as being based in Providence, RI.

Scam. Do not give personal information to them.

The caller accidentally left a message.   Which started out as "can you hear me".  It was on the news that this is a scam.   They record you saying "yes" and use it for fraudulent purposes.
