District 217 Fraud and Diversion Team: You are being contacted on a case set to be filed with your court system today. Contact the team immediately at 402-817-7843.
The message made no sense to me, so I did not return the call. - Another victim replies to confusing voicemailSame thing just happened to me about an hour ago...however, I answered. Was told that there was a fraud case pending against me with 2 felony charges of check fraud. ?? Stated that I had a cash advance loan, which NEVER happened, that I apparently defaulted on. Whatever...just another scam. They stated there was a warrant out for my arrest. I told them to come get me...they then hung up! I blocked the number. Scam, scam, scam...beware!
- BeeStated they were a fraud agency and going to file a case in my City's courts.

- MONICA replies to confusing voicemailI have been getting the same calls since last year 2014, just got another one now. Same MO as all the rest of you people. I have kept a record of the phone numbers, all starting with 402 coming out of Nebraska. I guess Corn Huskers got nothing else to do but SCAM us working people. Always a recorded message, going to court, filing a case etc etc. I called our Sheriffs Office and they have no record of a court case with my name. Go get a real job or start picking corn..........................
- mindy| 1 replyGot the same call...division 217 Fraud and Diversion, said they were issuing warrants for my arrest and that I had taken out some sort of payday loan. I have never taken out a payday loan, nor would I. Meanwhile, they had a very old address for me in Chicago. I haven't lived in Chicago (or Illinois, for that matter) in quite some time. I hung up and will be blocking that number, but will be keeping a close eye on my credit report. There is nothing there so far to indicate a late loan payment or any account in collections.
- WolfmanJack replies to mindyThis is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt. They also use the “process server” who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number. Now why would a “process server” want to do you, a stranger, a favor, and at the same time not get paid to deliver the papers?
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

- MikeSame phone call with the same story. First one I answered was a Detective Boyce and the second time was Investigator Hill. I enjoy having fun with them, as I know they are trying to scam people. I let them go on and on and then tell them that I want to pay. They tell me that they can't take cc info over the phone and that I need to wire the money or get a prepaid card and call them with the account number. I then tell them that they can rot in hell with all the other low life POS. They get upset at that point and start to threaten you and your family and pet gold fish if you have one.
- JennCalled saying I owed on a loan I paid off years ago. Then when I asked for a company name she was from and case or validation number she put me on hold then got back on and was frantic saying she didn't have that information. Total scam

- Terryi got a call twice a day today from 402 817 7843, seems to know my personal profile. It said they are from district 217 and diversion team. That I am being contacted on a case set to be filed with our court system. That I need to contact the team immediately. I did call the number and they said something about payday loan I did not pay which I have no clue what they are talking about. Scary because like I said it seems real but it takes not because I don't have nothing to do with payday loan.

If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now. If you can find them.- Caller: Informational post
