I''m glad I wasn't home because they would have gotten an earful.  Call and ask for money when these guys are retiring at 45 with spiked and bloated pensions?  They steal from us via their union contract and then ask for donations.  I gave out of my paycheck, at the grocery store, every time I buy gas, etc., etc.

They are raising money for a good cause.  In case you haven't been watching the news the gun violence in Omaha is getting worse everyday and they are just asking for a little help.  Maybe raising money for our youth to keep them involved in extra activities and keeping them off the streets sounds like a waste of money to you guys but to me it sounds like they CARE and want to make a difference.  It's unfortunate that people think that this has anything to do with their pensions or union contracts.  If you don't want to help by donating money get involved in other ways.   Remember these same police officers put their lives on the line everyday to help protect us and they are just asking for a little extra help in any way we can.

Unless anyone can actually provide proof that this is a legitimate call from the OPD I would suggest taking great care in assuming it's legitimate.  Here's a look at my call history as pertains to the number in question.

    08/01/2011     05:37 PM     From     402-933-7544     OMAHA. NE
08/01/2011     05:33 PM     From     402-933-7544     OMAHA. NE     Missed Call - Phone Busy
08/01/2011     05:32 PM     From     402-933-7544     OMAHA. NE     Missed Call - Phone Busy
    08/01/2011     01:23 PM     From     402-933-7544     OMAHA. NE

That's pretty damned insistant, four calls in one day and three of them within 5 minutes of each other.  Then there are the results from several reverse phone number lookups.  Two only reported that the number was based somewhere in the Omaha area (including Bellevue, Papillion, and Lincoln), while two more reported addresses.  One of these addresses was located a couple blocks southeast of 40th & Dodge while the other was located almost on the corner of 37th & Dodge.  Specifically:

    Connie J Behrens
    115 S 37th St, Omaha, NE 68131
    402-933-7544

    Eric N Behrens
    115 S 37th St, Omaha, NE 68131
    402-933-7544

    Trisha S Behrens
    115 S 37th St, Omaha, NE 68131
    402-933-7544

    http://anywhoyp.yellowpages.com/findaperson/phone?from=anywho_cobrand&fap_terms[phone]=402-933-7544

I cannot provide the link or address for the other result I found as I already closed that browser tab, but the 115 S 37th St address is borne out by several other reverse lookup sites including Yellowbook and, IIRC, 411.com.

Please bear in mind that there is a police station near 30th & [***] and another downtown near 13th & some street several (3-6) blocks south of Harney, I never paid attention to the streets when walking past it.  >.>  As such I don't think you'll find another police station near 37th & Dodge, especially given that the only places I recall along those corners are Bucky's, Taco Bell, and related establishments.

Received a call from someone on 3/15/2012 @ 6:38 PM who knew my name, and said his name was "Jim."  He said he was calling for the Omaha Police Department, and wanted money to support their youth activities.  He said he was not a police officer, but was located at 103rd & Fort Streets, which he said was across the street from the Northwest Precinct.  He was soliciting for $20.00 single contributions & $35.00 couple contributions.  I told him I had already paid a $20.00 contribution for some tickets, and he told me I was probably "scammed."  He asked if I would contribute to his cause.  I told him no, because I had already paid.  He said he would check his records and call right back.  Didn't receive a call back...

The police don't care that there is a huge amount of gun violence in Omaha.  It's just a bargaining chip for them to claim they need more money and more people on the force.  If they truly cared, would the mayor have disbanded the gang unit?  Not likely, given that he is in bed with them.  Yes, they may ocassionally risk their lives; but, unfortunately, their union has made them the enemy of the taxpayer.

I am a former member of the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police)  When we did fund raising we did it through a company. Most likely this is the same.  You will speak to a "hired hand" at a call center. The calls a not from a local precinct or an officer.  The company calling gets a percentage of the money raised.

Solicitation call claiming to be with the Omaha Police. I don't live in metro Omaha so they obviously got my number from the phone company. I know it came from the phone company because the phone company spelled my last name wrong on my account so every solicitation call i get that uses my last name incorrectly means they got my name from the phone company.

Approximately 85% of your donation pays the telemarketing firm that is not connected to the police at all. Only 6% of your donation goes to charitable donations. Instead of sending your money to the telemarketers, cut out the middle man and send 6% of it directly to the FOP. So for a $20 donation, send a check for $1.20 instead. Are the stickers they send you really worth the extra $18.80?
