Called me, long pause after I said hello so thought it was a robo-dialer. Distant sounding voice told me he had wrong number and apologized.

Just called, mechanical voice said it "wrong number". I called back and there is a message to opt-out of the "special promotions" by pressing 1. I did, but doubt that will stop anything!

just got a call from this number. i ignored it.

Called said, I am sorry, I think I have the wrong number... Sorry about that... I'm sorry... and hung up

Live in VA, just missed a call from this number - no message.

I just received this call.  Too weird!  As soon as you say hello, they say they have the wrong number.  What are they trying to accomplish??

i called the number back and choose the option for the do not call list

I got the same call that said they have the wrong number. I called it back and pressed one to opt out of special promotions. My guess it is a call trying to find working numbers so they can call and try to sell something. Hopw calling back and opting out will stop it but doubt it! Worth a try I guess.

Just got a call too... no idea who it was, didnt answer, at work. why the F*** would a robo dialer call just to say wrong number? maybe itsa adding numbers to a list :/

Your guess is exactly right, unfortunately, by opting out, you just verified that your number is real.  But don't feel too bad, simply picking up the phone was enough for these jerks to know that someone answers at your number, even if it's only your voicemail that answered.
