Bolivian car wreck scam for grandparents.

My in-laws just got scammed by this same thing 2 days ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grandparents car wreck scam.  My parents got taken on Thursday.  BEWARE!!!  Check all information before wiring ANY money!!!

My parents got the call also ..Public Defender... Blah, blah, blah.... IT'S A SCAM!!!  HOPEFULLY PEOPLE WILL GOOGLE THE PHONE # AND READ THESE COMMENTS!  Luckily I did!
Don't fall for it .... wish I could do more.  May call a news channel to see what they say....

My mother got this phone call on the same scenario...and he told her to not tell anybody about this.

Scam. They tried my grandparents but they failed miserably. Tried to say I was in jail after drinking to much. At home sleeping.

Got scammed today by alleged public defender Crawford to get my grandson out of jail on a DUI.  He wasn't arrested, no DUI, no jail, no public defender... I wired money TWICE to Bolivia. same scenario as described above.... shame on me.

This number called my 87-year-old grandmother yesterday, posing as my brother.  They even knew my brothers name which made it scary.  The guy said he was in jail because he had been out drinking with his college buddies and he had hit somebody.  The public defender got on the phone as well.  She told the guy it didn't sound like her grandson and his responds was the was fighting off a cold.  She also asked why he didn't call his parents and he said he didn't want to upset them and they would find out tomorrow.  
My grandmother has a hard time getting around, but she went to the bank -- which the tellers at the bank know her and told her it could be a scam-- and then all the way to Walmart, which is where they told her to go to wire the money from.  The guy was very adamant about what name to put it under, telling her the spelling had to be correct.  When they told her to wire the $2,860 to Santa Cruz Bolivia she told them she wasn't doing it and that it was a scam....they hung up on her.

Pass this along to all of your elderly family members and friends. It makes me sick and enraged that somebody would try to take advantage of my family, or anyone at that.

My mom also received a phone call from Stanley Crawford. They were trying to scam $2800 for a FAKE dui arrest. They got the names wrong so be sure to ask a question that only you two would know. What awful people trying to take advantage of others!

They tried this with my mom today. One person pretended to be my son calling her from jail as he was to afraid of calling me. Another person pretended to be the 'detention officer' and told her that she needed to wire money to Boliva to get him released. My mother calls me at work to ask what's going on. I told her that it sounded like a scam, and next time the guy calls to check on the money wire to tell him to go ahead and keep my son in jail as he wasn't her favorite anyway. Where do they come up with this cr@p?

This happened to my parents today.  Someone impersonated my son calling from jail.  I hate to say she sent $2800 to Bolivia to bail out her grandson.  She called me when "attorney" Stanley Crawford asked for more money.  My son was home the whole time with my daughter and a family friend to confirm.  Reported to the sheriff's office, but the money is gone.  Poor grandparents just trying to help their grandbabies.  Ugh!!

I got scammed the same way and by a person named Richard Carmichael, at 403 -616-5668, cost me 2700 dollars. Please make a police report, I  did at my local police and sent a letter to Calgary police.

How smart you were lady, I was not smart enough and I got the same verbage and fell for it. $2700.00 shorter today. Please make a police report to your local police and to the Calgary Police, Lets try to put this guy out of operation.

Besides Stanley Crawford there is Richard Charmichael using the same phone number.

I fell for the scam, they represented my grandson as in jail. The call came from 403 616 5668, caller said he was a public defender, name Richard Carmichael. send $2700.00 to Bolivia. A sorry situation.

How the money works--Take money to Wallmart, Wallmart uses "MONEY GRAM" a money transfer service. Any retail store that subscribes to" Money Gram"can deliver the money to anyone that has the "Referance Number after showing an I.D. and sign for it. The money can be picked up anywhere--It does not have to be Bolivia or any other country. It can be picked up either in the United States or Canada. The person who picks up the money can use a false ID, but, that person has a signature in writing that can be used as evidence when caught.

My mother was called today by a person saying he was my son and had been in an accident with his friends car and needed $2000.00. My mom said that it didn't sound like him and he said he had a cold. This matches all of the stories above. It is awful that elderly people are made victims.

My local police and the FCC said to report this scam to the "FTC.gov. Walmart in Calgary does not use "Money Gram" they use "Western Union", so the money is not picked up in Calgary. Please tell me who the money was sent to in Bolivia. Mine was sent to a -- Gilmar Lino-Alvarado-- in Santa Cruz. No further address.

Google, Gilmar Lino Alvarado, His picture comes up. Don't know if he is involved or not.
