Got call from this # on skype and heard only a distant conversation as if I had been pocket dialed.  What possible benefit would there be for the owner of this # to make these calls intentionally?

WATCH OUT!!!!!! Guess you didn't read the fine print. You are charged for each skpe call or text. Just another service to increase your phone bill. Very similar to the Slacker Radio that is on the blackberrys. Don't fall for it. Call the cell phone provider and get the real facts

That's nothing. It just means someone is doing a skype to skype call.  That's the incoming port # for calls placed to USA.

A friend of mine called my Droid phone (which supports Skype) from NZ to USA, and it appeared with this number.

This is the Verizon Wireless Skype Gateway #. Anytime you use Skype Mobile on your phone it will call this number which is a gateway to Skype users. People calling you from Skype can also use this number. This number can be ANYONE in the US using Skype Mobile with Verizon Wireless. Basically this number is a phone switch, not a end user and can be anyone number of users.

BTW this number is FREE as Verizon specifically whitelists this number so any Skype gateway number the app uses you won't be charged for (FREE).

I got a call from a man with an accent from this number too. It said incoming Skype call. I blocked him, but I'm worried he's like stalking me or something since he's called like a million times. I ignore every time but once I got a voicemail. He was talking but I couldn't really understand what he was saying. But it makes me feel better that I'm not the only one who keeps getting calls from him.

Savannah, dear, learn to use punctuation when you type.  Take a breath and indicate it with a period.  That's the little dot at the end of a sentence.

That was the most accurate response I've heard...people have a tendancy to wig out...even suggesting that each call is charged to the cell phone account. Isn't verizon and skype partnering on Skype Mobile?

Will, your explanation was "on point like stacy adams" but lingo-wise,what's a "phone switch?" while i acknowledge "free" as in "any" calls. What pompted me to google was, every time i tried to call numbers in my skype address book (provided). The auto answer message is " this number is no longer in service,if you feel you've reach this number in error, please check the number and dial again" ! so after ten attemped numbers ,trying to connect. i deduced (incorrectly) that my program download number was obsolete?  But after reading all these other encounters. "I AM SO CONFUSED" i wnat to use the system but cant connect
