says it's AT&T SVC CTR.. personally if they were actually calling me, would think they'd leave a message at least once out of the last 5 calls since Wed last wk.  And it gets better, when I told them I have been getting calls from myself, yep, my own name and phone number are showing up in my caller ID, they said no worries.. Just the scammers staying one step ahead.. just don't answer..  So you think AT&T gives a rat's butt about us??

    Half my calls are spam
I got a call at 8:35 pm last night.  I answered and the caller said he was calling from AT&T, about my problems with Internet.  I told this person that 8:35 was not a time for a business to be calling and that I had no problems to report.  This person had a very strong accent, sounded Indian.  I hung up on him.  By the way, the caller ID says ATT SVC CTR.

Scammed by My Own Number?! replies to Fed UP!!
OK, so yes, like you, I've been getting calls from this number CLAIMING to be AT&T service center, but I refuse to pick up because I am assuming it's a spoofed number, and therefore a scam, AND like you, I got a call from myself apparently. I thought MAYBE it was possible that since I have call waiting I might have accidentally SOMEHOW called myself, and since I have call waiting, and caller ID, if someone calls me while I'm on the line, it will come up on the ID. So I tested the theory. But no, it's not possible to dial yourself on the same line, whether you have call waiting or not. You'll just get a busy signal.

And no, AT&T does not really care about their customers or they'd do what so many other phone companies do, and allow blocking of phone numbers, but they don't. So I have to use the junk fax blocker option on my copy/scan/printer/fax in one to block unwanted numbers. I don't know how many it will hold ultimately, but so far it's continuing to allow me to add numbers as needed.

This caller pretends to be from AT&T offering an upgrade to service.  He has data and info which will make you believe he's real, but then asks for DOB, email, etc.  It's an identity theft scam.  BEWARE, it's quite convincing.  They must have accessed AT&T's database because they have info they couldn't have had otherwise.

I did not answer, they did not leave voicemail.

    Interestingly, web check at       http://broadband.com/about/
notes "Since 1999 Broadband.com has been managing wholesale partnerships with the top business-class ISPs in the U.S. including: AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, CenturyLink, Level 3, and many more. "

Site's address lists Raleigh, NC 27606

This is a phishing scam, but it's a convincing one so BEWARE.  They claim to be ATT wanting to switch you to a fiber optic line due to line problems, and they will "replace your modem for free."  That was my first clue.  BUT, they have (some of) your account information, including your service plan type, name, address, last 4 of your SSN, etc.

But it is a phishing scam.  DON'T fall for it.  [***]!

I received a call from this number at 4:20 p.m. today; my phone's caller ID said "ATT SVC CTR".  I've received at least 5 calls from this number in the last 2 weeks; I decided to answer the phone tonight; the guy claimed to be with AT&T wanted to let me know that there were service problems with DSL in my area; then he switched into a sale's mode wanting to offer me AT&T Uverse.  I asked him where he was located?  The caller said Texas.

I then asked the caller what Uverse plans were available and I wanted to know what the upload and download speeds were on the Uverse service?  The caller claiming to be with AT&T said "WHAT"?  I told him if he really was with AT&T's internet department he would know what I was asking about.  He didn't; I told him I was through talking to him and hung up.   It's a scam; he didn't get any account information from me except I told him I did have AT&T DSL; that was it.   I then called AT&T's customer service number listed on my monthly bill to inquire; I never got to speak to anyone at AT&T.   This smelled fishy from the start.

I too received a call from this number. However, I then called the customer service number for AT&T that I had listed in my contacts (having had an issue last week with the DSL being down) and was assured that this was indeed valid. Then I proceeded to set up the u-verse phone service (that I had been waiting on for at least two years).  So when I call either number now, I get the same information from both, my appointment time the same pricing, the same security question (that I set up on the number I knew was AT&T service), etc.

So just a little checking out and you can find out that this is not a phishing attempt at all. I did tell them that it didn't sound on the up and up and there were posts all over the web about his being a phishing attempt, so they should think about a different approach.

If 404-975-1637 number was actually AT&T calling, then when you googled it it would take you to an AT&T webpage and not 800notes.com, Mr Number and other site where spammers are reported.

"Just a little checking out" will show you this number is B.S.  Real businesses leave clear messages explaining what the issue is.  These scammers don't leave messages, and don't have meaningful, specific information according to several people who have talked to them.  They ask for info that real business never ask for over the phone.  Get a clue.

Sorry to burst your little paranoia bubble, but it *WAS* AT&T calling. The number appeared on my missed calls log so I called AT&T at (800) 288-2020 to investigate. A nice AT&T rep in Chicago named Marcia called the 404 number for me and found out it is a legitimate number. It is one of their internal lines not listed in the corporate directory and therefore isn't likely to appear in a Google search other than these misguided 800 notes postings. AT&T wanted to contact me to install an upgrade to my Internet service because they are replacing DSL lines in my area with fiber optic service which, as it turns out, will be cheaper and will perform better than my existing service.

Larry,   the upgrade crap is what the real  AT&T is doing now.  I called them about something else and they started hitting on me about upgrading my DSL.  They said that new changes has made my "Granny Slow"  DSL operate atleast twice as fast and they could do it at a lower cost.  Don't believe them when they say lower cost.
Then they started throwing numbers at me how if I upgraded the DSL my cost would actually go down. So,  I said Okay.  A couple of weeks later I get a letter from them showing what they said I agreed to.   My bill would triple in six months.   Plus my speed was the same as before....granny slow.   In my opinion it doesn't make any difference whether they are a scam or at&t,  they're both the same.  That's why at&t just got hit with a whopping suit by the government over cramming,  slamming and other illegal things they have been up to.   In addition to not being able to understand their customer service people,  they will lie to you.
Incidentally,  when I got the letter from them on my "UPGRADED DSL"    I called them and cancelled my home phone,  cell phone and the damn DSL, then went shopping.    What really fried my butt was when I get this phone call from them wanting me to take a survey on my satisfaction with their customer service and in perfect English.   Scammer or not,   I'm done with AT&T.

AT&T shouldn't be trusted.  They send me 3 pieces of mail EVERY week about "upgrading" to U-verse.  When companies try that hard, it's not going to be in your best interest.  From what I've read, many people are disappointed with U-verse.  Some hate it.  There is new technology coming out (in next 12-24 months) that appears will be 10-20 times faster than U-verse.  AT&T is insincere. If these calls are coming from At&T which I doubt, it's still a scam. I agree with Larry.  These people saying the caller is At&T are probably the scammers reacting to our calling out their scam.

Don't buy anything from anybody calling you on the phone!  Do your own research and call them yourself!!
