Ignored. Don't know anyone there.

Just got a call said it was pretrial office of the county clerk and they have two cases against me. Gave me a case number.  Is this a scam --don't have any loans  and wouldn't the county clerk send me a letter and call with a 908 area code.  Said I should call to avoid further action.  When I call back said reached the legal department and they are busy assisting others.

They did the same with me but i didnt call back

I received the exact same message about 2 cases against me. I was sued once in civil court, but I received a letter from my local court house, not an automated voice mail.

Just another debt collection scam.   Public agencies do not get involved in the collection of private debts.  If there is  a valid law case, the attorney for the other side would have sent you letters and there would be a paper trail. You would NOT have heard about it by cold-call from some scammy-scummy debt collector. Debt collectors as  a general rule are not licensed to practice law.   You can check with your local main county courthouse and see if your name is on the defendants roll for civil cases, the clerk will usually help you with this.

There is no pre-trial office in most main county courts for civil cases.   The term pre-trial is usually used in relation to criminal cases.  Just more scam-talk.

Do not return the calls and do not give them any information.  Block their calls.

In any event, a phone call is NOT legal notification of anything.

Other sites have reported this number as something like extortion.

If someone has a valid debt against you, demand a debt validation letter be sent to you by US mail.  E-mail no good.  Of course they won't do this, so simply ignore their calls and block them.

If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money,  tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.  If you can find them.

they called me and told me I took out a pay day loan in 2010 for 537 and now I owe 1300 but they can not say who. They did have some info on me.   The bank records show no deposits for that amount in 2010  but I can pay them the 1300 if I want  NOT

Debt collection scam.  Don't pay them anything.  Block their calls and ignore them.

Finally got a voicemail from this number after numerous calls. The recording said the same thing as mentioned from the other posters. I figured it was a scam. Thanks!

My Veteran and disabled spouse received the same call from a FL number that said the same thing.  It upset him greatly.  He has never lived in FL.  We blocked the number.  A week later this number called with the same exact spill.  Can you file a complaint thru the BBB if you do not know the name of the business that is calling?  My husband has bipolar disorder and this is causing him to become depressed...even though there is nothing to it, he does not understand.  I wish people like this could be arrested and placed under the jail.  We are going to block this number as well but I am sure it will pop up from another state.

I received a call from this number saying that a collection company bought an old payday loan and that I could pay $600 although they say I owe about $1600. I asked for a Letter of Debt Validation, and they said that I had to pay before I couldn't treceive that information until I paid the $600. They also said that they were litigators, and that they don't have to inform the company that I want the letter because it was beyond that point. I asked for their address, and they told me that I couldn't get it. They became very rude and hung up on me! Definitely a scam!

same thing happened to me this summer.  they had info on me too.  referred back to a payday loan that I had paid back years ago.  would not send an email confirmaiton of the debt or give me an email or street address.
