this number is portfolio recovery assoc. a debt collection firm. trying to collect on debts that are way past the alotted time to collect. way over 10 yrs.

Yeah, I got a call from some debt I'd never heard of from 12 years ago.  Strange

These people keep calling me to collect a credit card we paid off over 8 years ago. They call and I tell them the same thing each time. I have sent cancelled checks, the payoff letter and all and they keep calling. They need to find something else to do because I am not paying it again.And they keep asking for my husband. He died years ago and I am not going to tell them that any more. Their right hand needs to find out what their left hand is doing.

This number shows up on my caller ID 3-5 times daily. I do not have any unpaid bills. It is a bill collector, that has bought old unpaid debt and they try to get money from anyone that will pay.
They harass people to try to force them to pay or they won't go away. Do not answer, they also use
757-864-0020. They have offices in FL and Va. Beach, VA

Just another bill collector scam. Don't even bother trying to call them back.
All they will do is piss you off.

They are bottom feeders that buy OLD debts, most often paid off or written off by the original lenders.  They make thier money off of people not knowing the law because 99.99% of the time the debt is past its staute of limitations.
Make sure you check what those limits are as they vary state by state.
Also note, if you pay them even a penny, that statute of limitation is null and void and the debt becomes good again!! hence DO NOT PAY THENM ONE RED CENT!!!
I am in the process of finding out how I can stop them from calling, but at this time all I can say is that the debts they say you have have been written off already, if not paid off!!!

I just received a call from this number however they didn't leave a message.  I called the number back and it was Portfolio Recovery.  I don't have any outstanding debts so I am not sure why they are calling me.

the debt is past its staute of limitations, over 11 years ago; the original creditor cleared it  off there books.

The best way to get rid of this nonsense is to answer and say one moment leave the receiver on a place and let them wait they will get tired of waiting and also waist time waiting a good lesson for them...

These people have called my house from a variety of numbers.  I do not answer because I don't owe anything.  I have NEVER had a bill go to collections, and in fact just ran mine and my husband's credit reports last week.  My FICO score was 810.  My husband's was 814.  I don't know where these people get their information, but it is WRONG, and I will not establish a dialogue with them by answering the phone.

Might I add from the times of the reports so far, that obviously this is yet ANOTHER new phone number that Portfolio has added to harrass people from!

i got a call from the same debt collector. i see so many people on here that have no idea why some compacy would call about a debt after ten years. but not many denied they have debt. thats why we are all on here talking about a company that harrasses people for money they owe. i had them threaten me they would take me to court and that never happend yet. but how in the world is this company getting your phone numbers when you change it? its hard to get some ones cell number when they change it. and i dont understand why they do but i also dont get why people claim that goes on? i said before you should call the police about it but what are they really gonna do about it? you have to call the company and tell them in writing what is going on. they call from several numbers all the time to trick you into answering. but change your number if you dont like it or send them a letter and tell them what you tell this site. good luck.

They call me on my cell phone and my home phone from a variety of numbers. From my cell phone I simply save them in my contacts as DO NOT ANSWER and change the ring tone to silent. This way I never know when they are calling until I see a missed call. When they call my home, I simply ignore the call and they never leave a message. Do not speak with these people... they are not truly legit.

Looks like Portfolio has a new number. They are attempting to collect debts that have passed the Statue of Limitations. The SOT on my account expired eight years ago. Do not make a promise to pay or God forbid any payment...no matter how small. It will erase the SOT. They cannot sue you, garnish your wages or take any legal action against you. Here are the 7 numbers I have for portfolio. (Whats really cool is my new phone lets me tag these numbers and they go directly to voicemail, without ringing....I never know that they call until I see missed calls.)

I've been receiving calls a couple times a month from two numbers that come up for Portfolio. They are telling me it's from a Capital One Credit card,  I have never had a card from them and they were supposed to send me paperwork to complete declaring it fraud however I never received paperwork.   When I checked my credit score/history, nothing from Capital One OR Portfolio Recovery shows up on it.  I just ignore the calls.

Go to clark howards website and copy the drop dead letter and send it to them via certified mail, they are required to stop contact at that point.

I have also received numerous phone calls from another debt collection agency. I have never had
an outstanding debt in my life.I finally answered the phone and asked whom they were calling.
It turns out that they were looking for another person so they had the wrong number. The fact is that
phone numbers are reciruclated so the agency may not even be looking for you. Anyhow as a
result the previous agency stopped calling me. Now I am getting calls from Portfolio Recovery.
It may be worth your while to answer the phone. Don't identify yourself but ask the caller to identify
the person they are calling.
