Portfolio Recovery again with a new number.

Called. No Message Left. Very Annoying

I got call and messages from this number from time to time for the last couple years and told me that I own some debts.

This number has appeared for a few days, and I decided to answer against my best judgement.  Portfolio Recovery began requesting my name and I hung up.

Yep, Portfolio Recovery Debt Collector just called my number. Don't know how they got my number.
I wish they would would leave me alone. Any way if I own  money. Florida state law saids I don't have to pay the Debt collector I would can pay the person I owe the money to. So, Stop hassle people you Debt collectors. And they have different numbers they call from.

I have been umemployed for a yr. & before that lost everything I owned in two hurricanes Rita and Ike !!! I finally got a job and tryed to work somekind of payment with this credit card Compamy that keeps Calling  Of course the credit card company wasn't ready to help with Low payments  so that could get back on my feet to Survive. I've been Widowed for 12 yrs and the only income I have is when i work!!! So Please stop Adding to my Misery By Calling !!!!

I see (above) there is a break of ten months - from April 2011 until Feb of this year -- between reported calls on this particular number. This is the 167th time these bottom-feeders have rung the phone at our house since September, 2010, when, according to a letter from one of their lawyers, they sent me and the IRS a fraudulent 1099-C, because they had "decided to cease collection efforts" on a credit card debt for some non-existant bank - Providian - from 1997, that has not to this day ever been verified as even existing, much less as belonging to the person they are harassing. We have asked for verification, and they have never given it, but the vermin keep on pestering us. In fact, the lawyer admitted they CANNOT verify the debt. But why should that stop them"?  BTW, they do not return receipts for certified mail, but the US Postal Service records can still verify that the pond scum at PRA received the letter.  Postal Service, IRS, and FTC, plus state Attorney General  have all received complaints regarding their fraud. If you want to be really amazed, go read the business sites praising this bunch of bottom-feeding pond scum vermin and justifying their harassment of tens of thousands of persons. What they are doing is nothing less than an extortion scam, but it's legal, and it is admired by the Big Boys in business, and in the government business owns. Go figure. And they want to know why the electorate is so ticked off and disgusted.

People: you do not owe these vermin a single penny on any debt that 1) has not been verified, and 2) is past the statute of limitations in your state. If the idiots want to go buy a printout with lots of lines on it from Big Banks, who received handsome tax write-offs when they were unable to collect the debt,  that is their problem, and not yours.  Do not be intimidated.

#169 since they "decided to CEASE collection" eighteen months ago.  Either they are total idiots, or they are demonic, criminal and evil. Either way, they need to go away. (Interesting to see how few reports there are for this number, unlike for the other hundred numbers they use...what is so special about this number that only a select few get harassed via it?)

I block all their numbers too...but they keep changing them...there is no end seems like! They call here at least 1-2 times every day.

Don't make any deals with them - they will try to collect on old debts that are beyond the statute of limitations. creditboards.com can help you get rid of them.

Thank God the new consumer protection agency set up by Obama and Warren will be proposing regulation for these credit bureaus and collection agencies, particularly the largest like Portfolio Recovery.  It should give some relief from the way they operate and easier recourse if they violate the regulations.

You might try getting a cheap phone from Walmart that has the ability to block calls from numbers you enter.  I think it only does 20 numbers but you can change them as needed.

There is something else you can do that has helped friends of mine.  Make your answering message sound like a business.  They're not allowed to call you at work.  If they find it's a business number it should be a one time call and then they usually take you off their list.  This won't help if it's an automated call.  

It might go something like this.  Hello, this is ____________.  I'm either out of the office or on another call.  Please leave a message and I'll get back to you as quickly as possible.

I answer phone, Reply, [OK please wait a second].Set phone down.Check in a minute,Say[You Still There].If they are still there,Reply[ Ok Hang on].Do this until they are gone. At least,I Get some personal entertainment from waisting their time.

These people keep calling my cell phone.  I know it's not for me because I don't put my cell number on anything related to bills since I have a pay-as-you-go phone. That would cost me way too much to listen to their rambling.  Caller ID says it's out of Florida

Ask for a class hold name told them to speak with me since I am mom and asked three more times to speak with you hold. Mary u address better get your names right before calling again

I get calls from these people, block their number, and they use a different number, so have to continue to block.  Do not know why they are calling me, do not answer calls from unknowns.  I am not in debt to anyone.

Providian is a bank, but it was bought out quite awhile ago by Washington Mutual.  They used to offer credit cards, and really high interest auto loans.

These people have many different numbers. I live in Texas and cancelled Direct TV after using for just 23 days in 2006. Direct TV, first informed me I owed nothing and then someone changed their mind and asked me to pay a $400.00 early termination fee.They call and say nothing and I do not answer unknown calls.I have received Lawyer threats (not lately 2009 thru 2011), and calls from different numbers.
