- JoceLyneLouGot a call from that number. Told me that they were recording me for 'accuracy' and then said he was a police officer that are raising money for 2013, would I help and give a donation. when I answered that I would if they send me documentation first, he said that they do that only if I commit to give a minimum of $15. I said I could give $25. When I talked later to my husband, he told me that his friend (a real cop) told him that these type of phone calls are usually a scam to get your credit card number and signature or from a check too, to be careful.
Also, he said that IF such funds raising would be legitimate, very few money - like pennies in the dollar are forwarded to local police organization. Not a good idea.
So I tried to call back to say I won't contribute that way, but their number does not ring, just get a beep/beep/beep/beep..... Plus on top of it all, I am on the DO NOT CALL list. Looks like they don't respect that.- Caller: Police funds raising for 2013?
- L. JohnsonI'm on the "Do Not Call" list and have received 4 calls from this number.
- Caller: unknown
- Old Viking"Unknown Name"
- TomInNWFloridaI just added area code 407 to my blocked list.
Do yourselves a favor folks and get a call blocker. Sell a kidney and/or first-born if you must. :-) I used money that I might have otherwise contributed to a political party or charity. After the constant calls, I decided to put the money to better use. The resulting absence of annoying calls is worth it.- Caller: Unknown
- LindaThey just called me. I am to the point that if I don't recognize a number I hit the button on the answering machine for it to come on. I have been job hunting on the internet so every Tom, Dick and Harry call me about going back to school. The guy who called left a message, Hello, hello, can you hear me? Dummy you're talking to an answering machine. lol
- Caller: Florida Ben. Soc.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- MookieThe Do Not Call List does not have jurisdiction over "real" charities in this instance. And as stated above by JoceLyneLou the definition of a charity covers a whole lot of territory. Paying one or two cents on the dollar to said cause may make them legit legally.
The DNC list is a joke anyway, the outlaws show no fear of it, and rightly so.- Call type: Telemarketer
- Phone scammers suckI agree with getting a call blocker. I have now added this number to it.
I don't know how it's legal to call people basically posing as a police officer in order to scam money from them.
With all the NSA phone spying and so on, you'd think the government could easily bust these people, but I guess not.- Caller: "Police"
- Call type: Telemarketer
- JimI have received a call from them also. They claim to be a police officers collecting for local police and sheriffs. I checked with law enforcement and was told that they NEVER collect for their own purposes. This company claims to collect and give the money to the local agencies. In fact, they give about 1% of what they collect to the local PD and the rest of the money goes to "administrative purposes". DONT get sucked in. DO NOT donate to these theives. Their people are very aggressive and use scare techniques to get your money. Don't let them intimidate you, they have no authority and cannot do any thing to harm you. They are merely low life formar bill collectors in a different role. Hang up on them.
- Caller: Police Benevolent Association (Claim to be)
