- MM Southern CACaller ID Sunnyvale CA. Hangs up and leaves no message. Call preceded by 'Unavailable' with no number ID an presumably to validate your phone number and test blocking. Typical scammer/political solicitation/harassment tactic.
- ns| 8 repliesRings 3 times, and hangs up; no message. I blocked my CID and called it back, some guy answers. I decided not to say anything and just waited in silence... he said hello a few times, and hung up,... I am not sure, I feel somewhat satisfied that I got to reverse the roles here... taste his own medicine.

- Grandpa Moses replies to ns| 7 repliesCalling numbers back doesn't help matters, in fact can make them worse. Its bad because the numbers are spoofed as a ROT. You could be calling some innocent persons number or a innocent business that had nothing to do with the calls. While we understand that is is a frustrating thing, its just a bad idea.

Consider buying a call blocking device or phone. Many are around $50.00 and can block up to 1500 numbers. If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If u have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also.

- MidNYteStorm replies to lesThe DNCR is not a call blocker.
- Grandpa Moses replies to les| 4 repliesPut the blame where it really lay's, with the criminals and illegal telemarketers.
The DNC works just fine. It is for telemarketers only and honest business does indeed abide by it. It is the criminals (which includes illegal telemarketers), frauds and scammers that do not. However, the Fed. DNC does not cover some survey's, Political or Charities. You would need to check your states DNC laws to see if these are under your states DNC laws. The fact remains that they are not automatic call blockers though and can not protect you from the calls that are criminal, illegal or fraudulent.
Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so. And here are the links to read and understand what the DNC's are, what they do and what they do not.

- Grandpa Moses replies to MidNYteStorm| 2 repliesOr one could say, when did a criminal ever obey the law? Good point that is!
- MidNYteStorm replies to Grandpa Moses| 1 replyYou and I both know that life isn't that simple.
- Grandpa Moses replies to MidNYteStormHow true that is! If it only was, we would all be blessed!
- CatLoverfrom CaliforniaI received a call - they didn't leave a message, so I called back - hit *67 first so they don't know it's me---how sneaky! LOL! Anyways, it's some faux fund raising company raising fund for police and their families. Sorry police - you give me tickets so I'm not going to contribute. But lets just say for a moment its a charity I would consider. I asked the well-scripted salesman what percentage of the donated cash goes to the policeman and their families, and what percentage goes to admin costs - telemarketeers, office staff, and other employees of this foney-baloney non profit. They said they keep 90%. So for every $100 you donate, only $10 goes to the cause. The balance ends up in their hot little hands. I always ask telemarketeers the percentage. If they haven't hung up with me by then, I ask them if they thought that was even reasonably fair. Of course not! How can you justify asking for donations for someone/something, and keep 90% of the funds? Scammers!!!!
