Can anyone identify this number? Who is it?

no idea, trying to find out sj jail?

It is the phone that is used when they first book you in main jail in downtown sj.  It is in the holding area and it is the free call so you wont get charged and any number can accept that call, even if you don't accept collect calls.

I just received a call from this number too. I missed the call and tried calling back and it was busy...freaky!

We've had three collect calls from this number over the last couple weeks (one yesterday, and one today). It appears to be the local SJ jail. We have not accepted any of the calls

We've been getting the same call every day. It is a SCAM and do not press any buttons. This was on the news recently and is apparently being run by some international crooks as a way to put a phony charge on your phone bill. It's been showing on our phone as 408 352 5000, but sometimes shows up as something different. I'm getting ready to call the phone company to see if I can have it blocked.

I just got a call from that same number.

408 is a San Jose, CA number.  I received 10+ calls from them, and they all left the same message: for customer service, press 5, to refuse this pre-paid call press 1, to prevent calls, press 6, to report as harrassing telephone call, press 8. I answered twice and heard nothing, so assumed it was some kind of scam.  I get a call about 5 minutes after the last call and my best friend said he'd been trying to call me for the last 5 hours from a holding cell.  It's not a scam, it really is the main jail in San Jose.

only accept if you like the person that ended up there!

same as Anon, got two calls from this number so far with the same message,press 5 for customer service,to refuse this pre-paid call press 1 etc...

its someone from santa clara county jail trying to get a hold of someone

it is the Santa Clara County Main JAIL for SURE!  Most likely a friend got a dui if you got a call early in the morning.  It is the holding cell!

just got a call... 10:35pm. i didn't answer. going to bed....

recently I just started gettn collect call request from this number at all hours of the nite and also a male person call from a land line in the same area 408-947-9629.  It is really startn to piss me off.  So ready to call the BBB and any other means to protect myself.  A suggestion is that you might want to call you phone service and advise to block those numbers.

It is the San Jose Jail.

I also got a call from 408-352-5000 yesterday afternoon.. I dont know anyone in jail. Good news to hear im not the only one :)

I started getting calls from this number today and already have gotten 5+ call from it now. I answered it and yeah it's the Santa Clara Jail and the after the collect information said someone named Jason was calling me so I hung up. I got another one and this time in the person's name spot I got "[***] you better answer". I'm a little freaked out and now really nervous.

If you're from the area or familiar with the area code, this is NOT a scam. It is the San Jose Jail. Someone you know is probably calling you to let you know they're locked up. I received over 15 missed calls and decided to trust others who wrote that it was the San Jose/Santa Clara County Jail and pressed 0 to accept the call. Sure enough it was someone I knew who needed bail. Good Luck.
