ID indicated call originated from 408-411-9978 --- left no message---tel # associated with the same area code currently used by raudsters using the Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Los Gatos area code.  

Got a call from this number.  No one there when I answered.

Did not answer, but the caller ID is XXXXXXXXXX CA.

I also did not answer since the caller ID was XXXXXXXXXX CA. The "message" left was dead air.

408-411-xxxx with prefix 411 doesn't exist in the Santa Clara County.  411 is a reserved number.  Don't answer any call with this prefix.

Time to nuke this area, Location: California (Gilroy, Los Gatos, Morgan Hill). Getting too many calls.

Expecting another call, I answered the phone too fast, before noticing the caller id.  "Hello Mr. W (he knew my last name), this is so-and-so and I'm a licensed contractor ...".  Not sure how that scam works, but I said no thanks and hung up.

Same here. Knew my name and town I'm in.
Gave his name as "Bob Roberts". (Right! And I'm Pope Goezdeveezil).
He's "working in the area" and offering some "terrific discounts on construction work".
I asked where in the area he's working, he gave "Poppy Seed Road" which (a) there is no such street within about 50 miles and (b) sounds like a euphemism for an opiate addict.
I got him riled and talking for quite a while by suggesting that he must be a scammer because he's calling numbers on the Do Not Call list; he gave me an earful about how little that matters to him.
Eventually, we got tired of each other and hung up.
The number, of course, is spoofed. No idea where he's calling from. His accent, though, sounded mildly like New Orleans, if that's any help.
Oh, and I didn't get far enough into things to get a clue as to just what the scam is...

Blocked caller.  There are not any "411" prefix numbers so this was fake.  Got another spam call from "Redwood City" about 40 minutes ago

this is a bogus number -  SPOOFED to fool anyone who answers. Hang up and don't give ANY personal information.

Area code 411 is not assigned to a specific geographical location. Area code 411 is not really an area code at all. 411 is used for directory assistance.

The area code mentioned in this thread is 408, NOT 411
The exchange is 411
They both exist, and are assigned to California, as stated at the top of this page.

When I asked who was calling, said 'home improvement center'

Said the call was from Campbell. No message left.

I answered too soon expected my daughter is calling for me to pick her up from school.  Got me out of the couch looking for the phone.  I answered and said Hello?  Hello? Hello? Where are you?
Noone was on the other line but seems as if they're listening.
Hope they bust them!  They will be reported to the govt website.

Legitimate phone numbers can't start with 411, because it's reserved for information.  They're a scam that left me a 2 second voicemail
