I have a couple of ways to deal with these parasites. First, I let the phone ring three full times before I pick up. I pick up and don't say anything for 2-3 seconds. If it is a computer autodialer, 80-90% of the time the computer will hang up thinking it has gotten a voice mail or answering machine. After 2-3 seconds, I say our company name, but don't give out my name. That way they don't automatically have a name if they call back and get someone else. If I still get a person and they insist, I tell them my name is "Richard Smith"(it's not). It is none of their business what my real name is, they are telescammers who are breaking the law. If they persist in calling over and over again, I tell them that my boss is available, and then I use a sports air horn right next to the phone. What are they going to do, sue me? "Your Honor, I was illegally telescamming and they deafened me!" Good luck with THAT argument. The judge might give me a medal. Reporting these "people"(I use that term loosely) to the Do Not Call Registry is futile, they are usually spoofing their phone number anyway. If you have the time, have some fun with them. See how long they will stay on hold or still be on the line if you put the phone down. Take your cordless into the bathroom and have an extended "deposit" at the Porcelain Bank, complete with very loud fake sound effects. Tell them you ARE the boss and listen to their sales pitch, never saying yes to anything, but always saying that you will look at your numbers and see what you can do. Some scammers will record any affirmative answer you give and then splice it into a call and bill you for whatever they are selling, using that as evidence of an order. Waste as much of their time as you can, because that keeps them from scamming other people, and it can be a really fun stress reliever! Anything that we can do to make this less profitable for these ticks on the butt of humanity is a plus. Feel free to pass this on or add to it with your fun ways of taking back your phone lines. If these idiots would get a real job, the world would be a better place for all of us.

This call has come in twice in the last 10 minutes, once on each of our lines. Both times they hung up. I put "unknown" since there aren't a lot of comments here, but if they are looking for owner info, they are probably some kind of scam, especially with "local services" as the Caller ID with a non-local number.

"Local Services"; yeah right being in VT. & 408 exchange calling.  Sorry; never answer out of state calls with no private id.  Some how "408" from CA is not "local" to VT!!!!

We ARE not interested in having our business listed with you! your automated calls for the past 9 months are annoying why should we do business with a company that refuses to have humans call us.  If you where smart you would try a different approach most people will NOT answer an out of state call or hang on to listen to an automated message.  You are wasting your companies time and money.

FYI...it isn't really google calling you it is some scumbag company that tries to get you to pay them for something google gives out freely. not that i am a google fan but they are not the culprits here. just a heads up.

If anyone knows of a way to stop these scammers from spoofing legitimate phone numbers, call the government,  They were putting out ads asking for help in stopping them about a year ago and apparently nobody has stepped up yet.  Legitimate ideas only please.

I can just about guarantee that Google is not behind the calls everybody keeps getting from someone claiming to be with Google.  Can't blame them for all the idiots.

Have gotten a few calls from this number, and am always hung up on.  You would think a salesman would at least say hello!  Next time, maybe I'll be able to do the hanging up :)  I called the number back and pressed '2' to have our number removed but I highly doubt this will be the last call.

Got a call - no answer when I answered.  A couple minutes before got a call from 458-201-1332(google listing) - pressed "2" to discontinue future calls

you just made a huge mistake. NEVER press "2". You have now told these parasitic, scum-sucking vermin that pretend to be Google but are actually rip-off artists that they have reached an active phone number. Now, they will start bombarding you with dozens of spoofed phone numbers. I speak from experience, I have so far gotten calls from 56 phone numbers over 4 months. Good luck, get a really good number-blocker for your phone.

What I do with these scrapings from the bottom of the barrel, is to keep a list of phone numbers who when answered no one is there, hangs up or spouts an automated message. Then when they call again, is to check the phone number from CallerID with that list and when I pick the phone up press the "#" (pound or hashtag) key until they hang up. Once had someone on the other line speaking a foreign language, but I didn't say anthing, just kept pressing that "#" button until they hung up.
This has been working rather well. After they phone a couple of times they usually don't call again and have been getting alot less scammer phone calls!

This number calls at least 2-3 times every week... stopped answering it and just let it ring.  They identify themselves as either Google Maps or Google Places (can't remember which) and say the call is in response to recent changes... bull.  They are not Google, period, that much has been confirmed by Google AND there haven't been any changes made to our business listing, so, its a junk call.

My favorite way to irritate these jerks is to talk with them and ask them if I can put them on hold for a second, which takes 5 minutes, get back on line with them and ask if they can hold for another second which is another 5 minutes. Starts to become hilarious...

Claims to be Google updating company info... I know for a fact Google does not do that!

Called and no message.  Another goggle map scam.  Who are these people and how do you get business by hanging up on every call.   Who pays these people for such poor communication skills.
