- MichaelI have been receiving automated calls leaving computerized-voice messages. I finally decided to answer the call. They said they were from "The Office of Pretrial Processing" and gave me my name and asked if my Social Security Number ended in the wrong 4 last numbers. I told them that I would not give out any Social Security Number information until they told me who they were. They said, "Well, we cannot talk to you if you do not give us that information. Have a nice day." and hung up on me. No time to even have a follow-up question. I called back and same experience.
The two individuals names they gave me was "Carol Francis" and "Marsha".- Caller: The Office of Pretrial Processing

- Alfalfa replies to DianeHere are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:
The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.
The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.
The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.
The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.
Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.
Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.
Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.
Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).
http://www.consumerfinance.gov/ - Sick of emThey have been calling me for years now, but keep changing their number to make you think it's a local call. Total scammers trying to collect on a payday loan that is way past it's expiration date. Threats, threats and more threats....totally illegal. Don't even bother picking up and if you do, don't be the person they ask for. Don't even waste your time speaking with them it does no good anyway. Eventually they go away, they resurface in a few months using new phone numbers and start the process all over again. Beyond the legal collection date, but they keep on calling! IGNORE them, they are like a bad case of herpes!

Fake legal advice, fake ramifications if I didn't respond, warning me I would experience loss of money. Fake women's voice unable to pronounce words correctly using legal terms they don't understand, Pretty funny! Obviously a scam..

- JerryI actually had some fun with these people. It's a total scam. At first I played along and then I started asking them questions like what is the name of your company, can I have your physical address, and what is your tax I'd or business I'd. I could feel them squirming on the other line. They started transferring me and giving me all kinds of lame excuses. They finally hung up on me. I called them back probably 5 or 6 times. I told them I was aware of their scam and that I was gonna let the authorities know about them. They kept hanging up and I kept calling back. It got to the point to where when they answered they would call me by my first name. I finally got bored. I'll probably call them back tomorrow.

- Leo| 1 replyJust received a call saying they would go to my place of employment or my residence csuse they have 2 files if complaint against me. Was left a message to call back 409-449-1177 but the caller Id had a different number. They also gave me a case number? Said I will forfit any rights if they find me. From what i read it sounds like a scam. Should i call them back?
- kim replies to LeoNo, do not call them back. It is nothing more than a scam to try to intimidate you into giving out personnel and banking information. I have been getting these calls for almost 2 years, all the time. Unfortunately personnel info has been hacked from several sources and then sold over the internet to people like this scumbags trying to pull this kind of crap. They are neither law enforement or attorneys. Im still waiting to be served , arrested, my pay garnished, my car taken, they have even said they were going to take custody of my grown children if I did not respond to thier request. Thier dumbass try to rip people off. Sometimes thier accent is so heavy I cant even make out what they are threatning. Quit threatning and come serve me, I would love to do before a judge with you trolls
- LisaGetting same calls from Carol Frances who claims to be with Provisional Risk Services regarding debt. But no other info given and different call back number everytime. Filed a complaint with local PD and CFPB. How do these people get your info?

- joyI have been getting the same thing. I even told them that I am going through bankruptcy and they told me that that was illegal. I told them that payday loans are illegal in the state of Oregon anyways and that I was filing bankruptcy and I had an attorney and I wanted to give them the attorneys information. Everytime I try to give the attorneys information they would hang up the phone and call me back they call me about 10 times a day. I called my attorney I let him know what was going on he told me to keep a log, and to write down everything that they told me because it is harassment and if they continue I can turn around and sue them today I got 10 calls I loved all of them I called them back told them to quit calling me that I was filing bankruptcy it has already been in the works do not contact me again and they better write down my attorneys information or I would give my attorney their information again and my attorney would be suing them I will see what happens tomorrow
