    Usual hang-up-as-soon-as-you-answer call.
    Caller ID displays "Unknown Name".

My Verizon call block is set to screen calls without an ID, but seems totally ineffective.

Caller ID system design (at the national/service provider level) needs to be redesigned to make spoofing *MUCH* more difficult.
How about a registry for caller ID sources like the Internet DNS, which requires verifiable owner information?
Callers not provably confirmed by callback to source number get *NO SERVICE* from the telcos.

    What're the chances?

Yet one more hang up.  Caller ID POWER CENTER.  With all the chatter about high rates & high bills from the winter heating, guess new power companies figure we're all going to jump ship to another company from BGE and from what little research I've been doing between the post cards in mail, the door knockers and the phone calls, decentralized power is the in thing but you do have to watch the terms and rates if you switch.

I received a call at 11:40 A.M.  My ID read Power Center.  A record said, "You may be elligible for a rebate on your electric bill, please hold and have your BGE bill ready."  Then a female (I thought she said her name was Rachel) came on the line and I could not understand a word she said as there was a lot of noise in the back ground and her words all ran together.   I hung up.  Then I called the number back as I was curious and a recording came on saying, "If you no longer want to receive calls from this numer, press 5."  So, I did, and then a recording came on sayin, "You have been removed from our list."  Who knows what Power Center is.

Another company wanting to take over my electric bill. Robo-caller called my house 3 times today. Operator would not give superior's name, phone number, or address of company.

Call back only gives a message to be taken off their calling list. No option to talk to human.

    Sick of these calls
I'm guessing this is yet another electric company that ignores the Do Not Call list--or possibly a scammer posing as such a company. I never pick up. Why should I give them the time of day when they have no respect for my wishes about telemarketer calls?

Offered to give me a lower electric rate. The person who answered asked for my electric bill customer number. I asked who she worked for and she hung up.

Next time, I say 3 words and blow a whistle. I hope their noise cancelation doesn't work.

If you give them any information - name or address or (God forbid) your electric company account #, they will "slam" you and switch you over to their company.  You won't know it unless you know where to look on your electric bill.  Has happened lots of times in Maryland lately.

I doubt you have been removed from their list.  Probably your phone number is being sold to other scammers because it is a "good" live number.  Be prepared to be inundated with scam calls over the next few weeks.  Best advice - if you do not recognize the number don't even pick up.  And don't interact with them at all (i.e., Press 1 to be removed from our calling list).

Chances of that excellent idea becoming fact is zero to none.  Phone companies are making money from these scammers.  Do Not Call List is a joke.  If caught, all these scammers get is a fine - chump change considering the millions they scam from people.

The do not call list is a joke. I have been told by telemarketers that they're not calling to try to SELL me something just to let me know about their wonderful deals!  That gets them around the violation.
