Another portfolio recovery but this time joke is on them they signed for a cease contact letter on 4/15 so I'm considering this a violation of that and taking legal action they know they are collecting crap debt it's not on my credit report it's past the SOL so now they pay!

Has that worked for you so far? And is it in effect from the date they receive?

Many, many calls to my house phone.  I don't owe them any money!

Portfolio Recovery, every day sometimes twice a day trying to collect an 11 year old debt.

They call many times a day :(  different numbers, I don't get it , I don't owe them anything yet they keep on calling? 😥

The caller ID said Portfolio Recovery. They have called my house numerous times and this time I answered.

The man identifed himself as Cedric Person and said he wanted to talk to NAME. He said it was her cell phone. He was talking in a twangy accent with a loud voice so I talked in a loud voice with a twangy accent. I am not sure who he was trying to call but it was a landline and not a cell phone number that he was calling. He got frustrated with me and said he would just call back and I told him "okay".

They called at 8:15 am this morning, I am in bed with 8 bypasses, circulation problems, cad, kidneys and liver to mention a few.  They call and asked for someone and get rude. At that hour in the morning and I am not well.

Got one too. I have adopted a "zero tolerance" policy with any calls that have "not provided", "unknown", "unknown caller", "Anonymous", "Name Withheld", or any variation of the above. I used to allow my answering machine to deal with them, but they seldom leave a message, or sometimes use a noise generator to try to fill up the machine. Now, I simply look at the caller ID, and if it says any of the above, I pick-up long enough to complete the call (1 sec.) and then promptly hang-up. They get charged for a completed call, and I don't have to listen to the phone ring. Then I come here and look-up the number.  I am amazed at the amount crap I have avoided with this method. This method works, there is nothing they can do about it, and it is imensely satisfying to run up their bill. Repeat as often as necessary. :-)   Note: I have noticed lately that I am getting a lot of out-of-area-code calls
from (purportedly) cell phones. These come up as "New york Call", Etc. I'm still letting the answering machine handle these. I never get a message, and still look them up here. It's the usuall suspects, still trying to hide their identity. Do this for any suspicious call you do not recognise.  Keep a list, and use the pick-up - hang-up on them too!!! :-)

Several years ago I became disabled and could no longer work. I called my credit cards and asked if it was possible to settle for a lower amount. They agreed and I paid them off. Now this collection agency is trying to collect on the difference of what I still owed when the account was settled and closed. They tripled the amount owed but will settle for what the original amount was. They are a bunch of bloodsucking bottomdwellers who call from about 30 different numbers trying to collect on old debts that were settled years ago.

Portfolio are the SCUM OF THE EARTH........They buy old debts that have PAST the statute of limitations.

Same here,  they are trying to collect on debts that were already paid.  
They have a long long list of numbers that they use .  BLOCK THEM ALL !

They keep calling for something unknown

I set up google voice to answer their numbers with the sound of a fax machine.

I wonder if they still get charged for the call ?

These idiots have been calling for a few years. Until around March they were always identified as Portfolio Recovery. Now they use different numbers and different cities. I don't owe anybody and have no old debts. Imsuspect they are looking for someone with the same name as mine as this has happened before. Never answer these idiots. They will do anything to rope you onto paying, and it may not be your, debt. They buy old charged off debt for pennies on the dollar so if they make someone pay the original debt, they make a lot of money. We either let the machine pick up (which they never leave a message hence a Robo call) or pick up then hang up. Screw these blood suckers.

PRA has been calling on and off for two years. They called for about 9 months every day or so then stopped for about 6 months only to start again. I guess they hope you forgot to screen your calls and hope you will answer. They call to collect on long dead debt (some times over 10 years old). Do not answer them if your debt is old as they can not collect but will only beg for money.
