Automated telemarketing for debt consolidation and re-mortgaging.

Automated call about debt consolidation.  Wanted me to press 5, to take me to someone would've tlaked to me about debt consolidation for a few minutes and since I didnt, it cut off after a few momnts of silence from my end.

Just had one too. Looks like yet another scam operation has just started up.

at 17:34 today May 20, '08 I had a call from 001 410 774 8122 with the same results as mentioned by others in posts. How they got my number I don't know as it is unlisted. So I listened and they hung up, yup probably another scam

This number called me today while I was out - also in the UK.

I had something similar a few months ago, but I don't think the American systems are compatible with ours as it just rang off after a few seconds silence. This happened a number of times, but I don't have the number any more so I don't know if it was the same one.

There is a scam doing the rounds where you are asked to press a number, if you do then it gives the caller free access to your phone line so they can use it to make as many calls as they like and you get charged from them. What leads me to think that this may be that type of scam is that normally on an ordinary call you'd be asked to press mayb #1 or #2, but #5 is very unusual. I had a friend in the States try to do a reverse look up on this number and it didn't find anything. Also if you notice it was an English voice on the call, but purporting to come in from the States. There are numbers over there that you can dial through and they mask the number you are calling from...so be very careful if any othr similar calls come through. I lived in North America for a long time and have experienced other similar scams

My call said I was to enter my phone number to remove me from this telephone removal service.  Didn't do it.

I found this number on my 1471 (the last caller log we have on phones in the UK)last night at 17.25 UK time. I've never had such a call from the US before and the number was nothing like those of people I know over there  so was curious about it. As I didn't answer there was no message but I'm glad I found this site to see that I'm not the only one getting the calls.
Bit annoying that they have my number but I shall certainly be ignoring them.

on checking 1471, i also had received a call from them.
These calls must be purely random because my number isn't listed in the phone book, unless it has been 'sold on'

comment... Here in UK, Ofcom have made a ruling on silent calls, where telemarketers make far too many calls for their system to handle, then drop the calls. But it probably won't affect these people if they are dialling through another country.

Strange how things evolve, was browsing some sites and I spotted an ad which seemed identical to what the auto msg is in these calls, ad was for a company called Delta Debt Consolidation here in the UK, splurb in the ad was identical to these calls. If it is this company then they are obviously trying to get around the UK Do Not Call scheme illegally.

Call from this number last week; pressed "5" out of idle curiosity - knowing it was a scam - no reply. Have notified The Information Commissioner's Office and am now about to contact the US version of Trading Standards in Maryland.
