I am receiving calls from this number every day - at least 3x per day and they have identified themselves as the Maryland FOP.  I told an initial caller a few months ago that I would try to make a donation.  I made one a few times in previous years and that is why they call all the time.  This time they wanted me to give $35.00 minimum; I said I cannot do that - I "might" be able to send $25.00 but I was not sure at that time. They thanked me and sent a pledge letter to me.   The letter came and I could not afford it so I put it aside. I received a call over a week ago from the above number asking me about my donation and why i had not sent it. I told the gentleman I remember saying I would try but I am unable to.   He told me I pledged this amount and have to pay it and then demanded I give him a VISA number or do a check by phone.  I told him I did not say I would, I said I would TRY but am unable to do so.  He became insistent and rude and said he is going to record this conversation. I got angry and hung up.  Now, I am receiving these harassing calls every day - at least 3 times per day.  This person leaves no message and lets the phone ring 4 or 5 times and then hangs up.  He calls often as early as 8am and then again between 12 and 2 and then again either once or twice, sometime between 6:15 and 8:30pm.  I no longer answer the calls.  I am considering blocking this number as well.

These foreign individuals change what they call themselves from one time to the next.  I got a call from the 410-834-2827 this very day.  Much like all the harrassing calls I got lst summer from these same fradulant idiots. When they called me today they said I was going to be arrested for fradulant activity. I too have stopped answering. I reported it to the FCC and to my local authorities.  They scared me so bad last year that I actually paid them!  I have two small children and a husband who isn't working.  One of them actually felt bad and admitted that they were scammers.  Every few months they start it up again.  Get a clue! You guys are in the last days of your fraud.  People are on to you! You should be ashamed of yourselves for taking money from people who are already having a hard time.  Hell isn't hot enough for you!!

i too just got off the phone after receiving numerous calls daily and not a different times but in a row and these ppl are telling me i had a loan out of 800 some odd dollars after checking my accounts and monthly statements i have not received any money these r scammers they have also told me they r taking me to a federal court which is fine i said bcuz i have recieved no moneys then they pursued to tell me that i should hire an attorney i said i have no money to do this he said it would be in my best interest and told me he was some type of officer first off no badge number was given nor his name or department not a real officer........ this is bologna i also looked up the number in yellow pages it is a landline number no company name is given hhmmmm seems a little fishy all us seemed to be getting scammed!!!!! twinluv09@yahoo.com email me if you have more questions but i am looking into haveing this number holder sued for harrassment plus more....

they also told me this as well i siad go for it arrest me i will sue for harrassment

I am calling the BBB to find out what I can do about this!!! They say they are a loan company and have loaned me moneys to my account!!!!!!!!!!!! They said I was committing fraudulent activity!!!! They have no clue what's coming cuz I am very irritated with this call and going to send it out everywhere and expose these ppl!!!! Plz do the same

This happens to me about once a year and I have never, and would never have a payday loan.  The first time it scared me but I have learned.  The best thing to do is just not answer the phone calls.

Update from yesterday.  They contnued to call and even made threats against my family.  WOW.  When I told them I was onto them they said "wait and see what happens"  Well about 10 minutes later a call comes from a local number and hangs up.  When I do a reverse look up it is from my local sheriffs office.  (I am still not scared at this point) So I call  the sheriff's office back and they came to my house where they explained that this fraudulent company had piggy backed their local number in an attempt to scare me.  (  I don't even know how you piggyback a number, but wow)  Anyway, he said all the threats and intimidation and even the piggybacking were not illegal.  Them saying they are affiliated in any way with the police is a felony.  I guess we'll see what happens today.  This is starting to be funny.

Also, on a side note, they are using very American names like Chris Brown and Kristen Johnson but the middle easter accent is so heavy that they pronounce the names as "Crease Brawn" and "Kristeen Joneson"  Pretty ridiculous!!!

First, the phone number which called you was provisioned by RNK, Inc. and it appears to be a VOIP line.  This means the calls could be coming from anywhere, including overseas. <http://www.rnkcom.com/>  

The best you can probably hope for is to share this information with the police, and they may at least be able to contact RNK and get the callers phone service killed.  It will be a minor inconvenience to these creeps, but we must take what victories we can get.

Piggybacking is not really a good term for what they did.  It was simply caller ID spoofing.  When a caller sets the CNUM to a phone number (in this case the number for your local SO) the phone company looks that number up in a database in order to add the CNAM (name) to your caller id information.  So, when somebody sets the CNUM, the CNAM automatically matches it.  That is why your caller ID said what it did.

The actions they engaged in were in violation of the law.  Specifically, one or more of the FDCPA, TCPA, and Truth in Caller ID law.  I would also add fraud, extortion, and impersonating law enforcement.  Meaning no disrespect, police officers are not always aware of all of the applicable laws, and to be fair, this is a different area than what they are typically dealing with.  It really doesn't matter too much, since the callers are quite likely outside their jurisdiction.
