I had the same call from this entity. It appears to be a collection agency. I must also say that they seem to be highly unethical and inconsiderate. I recommend that you block them and whatever you do, do not answer any questions they ask.

Caller ID said "Pittsburgh PA" then the number.  I let the answering machine get it.  As soon as they heard 'to send a fax please press SEND now' they hung up.  I like starting my answering machine message that way.  Also put them on my block list.

Get a ring tone that vibrates only. Assign a name to the ring tone, such as Bite Me or some other name that you will recognize as one that gets on your nerves when you answer it. Start assigning these numbers to the same name in your address book. When they call your phone vibrates instead of rings, you see the assigned name you know belongs to them, and continue on with your day. Every time they change numbers you don't recognize, look it up and assign it to the same name.

For your cell phone, you can download a free app called Mr. Numbers. Use it to block unwanted numbers.  Portfolio Recovery Associates is under federal investigation for illegal practices. You may also want to notify your state's Attorney General if it becomes harassment.

Portfolio Recovery Associates are bottom feeders--which means they purchase charged-off debts for pennies on the dollar then try to collect on them whether they are legitimately owed or not. They are also notorious for submitting bogus 1099-C's on unvalidated debts.

These people, Portfolio Recovery Associates, are debt-collection bottom feeders of the worst sort.  They purchase charged-off debts (which, in many cases, were paid off through arrangement with the original company to whom the debt was owed, I might add), then call at all hours, day and night, from 7 in the morning until 10 at night.  Federal law states they may not call before 8 or after 9.  They're [***].  Been calling me for months now, even though I outright told them I disputed the validity of the debt (it's over 12 years old and I paid it off 9 years ago, with the original company!!), and ordered them to cease and desist and if they felt they must contact me, to do so only in writing.  I figure that if they have my land line, they have the address for that land line; so let them do some actual *work* for a change, instead of badgering and harassing me.  [***].

This is Portfolio Recovery. They have a huge bank of phone numbers from all over the country, so it doesn't look like it's them calling.  Calls may show up from any state. If you want to know about all the illegal collection activities this company is involved in, visit www.budhibbs.com. It's an excellent resource. If you are on their call list, or any other collection agency's call list, you need to educate yourself about them.

Yes, they are calling, using different area codes and numbers (New York, Pennsylvania). They call anytime, day or night, and were very rude the first time I answered. I don't answer anymore.
