Impostors who claim to be from Google (they are not) or claim to be associated with Google (they are not). They either claim your business Google+ profile is not complete, verified, or optimized or that they can raise your search engine rankings through SEO and Adwords/keywords. Today they tried the SEO angle with me (yet again) -- tomorrow it will be the other angle -- they call every single day, several times a day. They spoof numbers from all across the USA to avoid being tracked and in an attempt to make you believe they are from Google (or that they are associated/partnered with Google) to persuade you to purchase their bogus services so they can obtain your financial info. They call all numbers (including cell and Do Not Call list numbers), and they hang up if you ask them to verify their identity, verify the company they are calling from, or ask too many probing questions. They are looking for an easy mark. Various reports online about this scam mention the calls originate from overseas but they spoof numbers across the US to try to make their fraud look like a legitimate US business. When they call you and ask to speak to the business owner, ask them what business they are trying to reach. They cannot answer your question because your number was robo-dialed, and they don't know who or what business they called.

This robo said "this is a vital call for an important purpose".  Really?  I/We have better things to do yet we get probably no less than 10 of these a DAY!.  Google, loans, etc.   I'm sick of Google.  Google allows this to be perpetuated.  People posing as Google.  So,  I do not "google" anymore.  I prefer to use Dogpile or DuckDuckGo.  And, when these imposters do call, I waste as much of their time as I can.....profits down the toilet for them.

They called  me and as soon as I asked what they had to do with Google they hung up.

I a with this excellent recap.  When I asked which business they were calling about, the person calmly asked me to hang on while he looked it up.  I was then hung up on by the individual.

Rcvd call on my business line from PA - "important msg" from company pretending they're affiliated with Google about how I can increase my on-line business presence and make a bazillion more dollars using their SEO services. Hung up and blocked 'em.

A "we'll get you in Google scam". Funny thing is, I operate a legitimate SEO company which NEVER cold-calls anyone, doesn't use scare tactics or any of the other crap these scammers do that give the SEO business a bad name. When they call, I like to string them along for a while before asking "Do you know what my company does? We are a digital marketing agency - and a REAL Certified Google Partner. We also publish consumer alerts about people like you."
What really sucks is that these "we work with Google" companies are offering a Google Local listing you can get for FREE. And here's the real rub - Google really does have certified partners who they have asked to do seminars to help small businesses get in Google's local results (for free). As you can imagine, we're having trouble getting people to sign up since they have already been harassed by these con artists for years.
