I got an automated call saying they were from an insurance company and wanting my daughters information verified.

Same thing happened to me, but I had a bad feeling about it. I was kinda outraged to hear my child's name from some unknown source. I looked up if anyone was posing as athem online and found this news article about scammers.

Just received a phone call from this number but could not answer. No message was left

An automated system called me and say they had an important reminder about my child, and said my child's complete name. I was busy and hung up, but they then called me on the weekend and say they wanted to verify my child's birth year. offering 2001 as the first choice. That made me think it was b.s. It is very likely that someone's child was born sometime after 2001!

You can always call your insurance company directly at the number on your card.  If you have Blue Cross Blue Shield through Anthem, this could be a result of the massive data breach.  If you have been dealing with a particular insurance company routinely for your child's healthcare, it is not very likely they need to verify their year of birth as it would already be in their records and on any claims filed for their care.

These are scammers trying to leverage information obtained during the massive Anthem Healthcare data breach which occurred in Dec 2014 thru Jan 2015.

The attackers are going after kids, because its unlikely that a child's stolen identity will be detected for many years.  I got calls from them back in early April from other numbers.

Anthem Healthcare has set up a website and will provide current and former Anthem customers with free credit monitoring for two years.
