Portfolio Recovery - looking for someone I don't know.

called my home phone today at 2:51PM. I didn't answer the call. It was from Portfolio Recovery which is a debt collection agency. This is the second debt collection agency, along with another one named National Recovery Agency or NRA that keep calling me every day.  I don't know why they keep calling because I don't have any debt or owe anyone any money. I guess they like to keep  harassing people to try and make them pay up for phony debt claims.

Called cell on 05-13-16 at 1719, no name on caller ID, didn't leave message.  Second call from Portfolio Recovery Associates after I called their main number on 05-11-16 and told a CSR to have PRA stop calling.  The PRA CSR said my number wasn't in the PRA system.

I'm logging PRA calls.

I talked to an attorney who told me I could obtain $500 per call from Portfolio Recovery for unwanted calls, but that I would have to notify them beforehand that I don’t want them to call me.  You might also want to contact an attorney.

The attorney I spoke to was at Krohn & Moss 323-988-2400 (Los Angeles, California).

It's a scam group trying to get money they have many numbers

This is just of one of the many numbers they use to harass people. Don't bother blocking them they have numerous numbers,  They are in the business of collecting old debts that are past the statute of limitations.  They pay a couple of pennies on the dollar in hopes of tracking people down and calling them repeatedly until they finally give them money just to stop them from calling..

That's bad advice you are giving, as there are call blockers available for landlines that can block 250 numbers, others up to 1500 numbers, and some can block entire area codes or exchanges (also called prefixes).

Also, once "Portfolio Recover" has talked to the person they allege owes them money, the company has to mail proof the debt exists and they have a right to collect it, within 5 days of the call. And if the person they call tells them to never call their number again, the company has to honor that request, and only contact the person in writing. Ideally the person they call should mail a letter to the company making that demand.

That's true, but its another law the scammers ignore.  Many scam calls come from outside the US where US laws can't be enforced.

I don't know who they are. I have calls from them on a private number that I haven't given out to anyone for any reason.  They didn't ask for my name they won't leave a message and I refuse to give them the chance to harass me further.

Yep - this is definitely PORTFOLIO RECOVERY.  I've come up with a great solution if you have AT&T Uverse.  I've been using this solution for months and it works great.  AT&T allows you to block calls - but only up to a precious 20 numbers.  Instead of filling up your blocked call list with phone numbers from these guys, use the "Exclusive Call Forwarding" feature.  This feature allows you to forward up to 20 numbers to one specific phone number. I added all the PORTFOLIO RECOVERY numbers I received to this feature instead using the limited slots of the call blocking feature.  Then I have them all forwarded to 800-772-1413 which is the main PORTFOLIO RECOVERY phone number.  That way, whenever they call, the call gets forwarded straight back to them.  So far, I have accumulated 11 phone numbers for the last 3 or 4 months.  And now I rarely get any additional numbers to add to the list.  I have no idea of the legality of doing this.  However, if the call is illegal to begin with, then forwarding it back to them seems to be the logical solution for the end-user.  Sweet - and no call blocking slots used!!  Here are the 11 PORTFOLIO RECOVERY numbers used to call me so far.  Enjoy!!

It was a woman, "Crystal", she asked to speak to -------------, I told her no one lives here by that name and I hung up. She'll be blocked. I block these numbers till I can't, then I unblock the first 5 to add five more. I just keep doing this relationship. I don'the know why I answered the phone this time, I think I just wanted to be able to hang up on them.

They called a cell phone number that they were never given and didn't even HAVE that belongs to someone else, and didn't bother leaving a message.  I do believe that they actually have a class action lawsuit against them for this type of crap!
