WHILE I was filing a complaint with the DNC list from a call from 914-530-3268, a call came in from THIS number.   Suspect they are related, connected.  Maybe this is the TRUE number behind the 914 # and their spoofing system failed!  Let it ring only 3 times, then hung up.  Suspect they didn't want to pay for the long distance call by letting the ans. machine get it, as it did the first time.

Called twice again today, two times in a row, and on two different phone numbers we have. Still no message and no idea who they are or what they want.

We are now up to SEVEN calls in SIX Days; they are starting to call TWICE daily.  Never any identifying info on Caller ID nor ANY messages left.  They are starting to call earlier and earlier; 9:10AM on Friday and 9:33 on SATURDAY.  This is BULL****.

Spouse is getting same type of call - no name/no message on his PRIVATE work-issued cell phone from 413-777-5929.

Have issued complaints with the DNC list after each of these calls, but WHERE are the other complaints here???

    ANYONE know WHO this is???

There is really no reason to get repeated calls from obnoxious callers.
Simply get a phone number blocking service, app or device.

We *HAVE* a Call Blocker - TWO in fact - and this number IS 'Blocked,' BUT, it continues to call us and rings ONCE before it is cut off.  BUT, we still get disturbed and are aware that this number is continuing to harass.  There are LAWS that are being VIOLATED here, especially since our blocker plays an outgoing message of "The Number You Have Reached WILL NOT ACCEPT Your Call."  So they've been BLOCKED and TOLD not to call, and yet they continue; and yet there is next to NO info on the internet as to WHOM this is.

    >>  There are LAWS that are being VIOLATED here <<

    True.
Do you really expect criminals and scammers to obey the law?

    >>  there is next to NO info on the internet as to WHOM this is. <<

Also true.  The bad guys are adept at camouflage.

We can no longer believe the phone number we see on our caller IDs (CID) belongs to the person who called!  The bad guys are now using easily accessed technology to "spoof" the CID numbers, so their real number does not appear.

The problem has gotten so bad, the US government actually passed an Act, called "The Truth in Caller ID Act of 2009", making such spoofing illegal.  See http://www.fcc.gov/guides/caller-id-and-spoofing
    for more information.

The FCC adopted that Act in June, 2010, stating that violators could be fined up to $10,000 for each violation.

However, the bad guys are ignoring this law ... after all, they are criminals, and that is what criminals do.  Although we now have a "law" against spoofing, it is very difficult to enforce it.

So, if you see a CID number on your phone when you are called by some scammer or telemarketer, it might not belong to the scammer!  It might be the number of some unsuspecting third party ... or, it might be one of those numbers that charge $25 (plus about $9 per minute) if you call it back.

You might want to file complaints with your phone service provider and directly with the FCC..

I fully understand that these are criminals.  I am not stupid and don't appreciate your condescending tone.  I am FRUSTRATED that so little is being DONE about this.  While I fully understand that a lot of this originates overseas, I also strongly believe there are, ultimately, FILTHY RICH Americans behind this, helping to finance and organize this to profit from this.  At the very least, there are dozens (hundreds?) of American Corporations who are complacent in all of this.  If all the players in this game - the Phone Companies, Banks, Credit Card Companies to name a few - were mandated to track the sources of these scams and fully cooperate - proactively -with authorities on this, then this would die down in a hurry.

Also, all things I already knew, but thanks.  I will cut and paste into a document for myself to keep the web addresses.
One thing you don't understand - I'm by the phone almost all day.  I run a small business (with a different number/line; NOT the line being spammed) and am also battling a terminal disease daily.  So, I HAVE to go to the phone every time it rings.  Not only it might be a business call, BUT it could be a doctor, clinic, hospital, etc.  I HAVE to let each call go to answering machine to screen them, and pick up if its legit.  That doesn't make me any more 'special' than everyone else who gets these calls BUT, I get very 'crazy' when a number 'harasses' me like this.  Its just more STRESS that I don't need!

<<So, if you see a CID number on your phone when you are called by some scammer or telemarketer, it might not belong to the scammer!  It might be the number of some unsuspecting third party ...>>

I don't believe an 'unsuspecting third party' would call SEVEN TIMES in six days, including 9AM on a SATURDAY, like they did yesterday.  They've had opportunities to leave a message, and so far, have not.

<< ... or, it might be one of those numbers that charge $25 (plus about $9 per minute) if you call it back.>>

I ALMOST called a number back that hit my cell yesterday.  Guess I'm glad I had enough self-control to resist!

BTW, since you came HERE to this site, to THIS number thread - HAVE THEY CALLED YOU???  If so, how often and how many times???

    Thanks.  Will keep this link.

Since you came and looked here, I;m wondering:  Have they called YOU, as well?  How often?

My comment above of "There is no info on this number anywhere" (other than info you have to PAY for - and there is no guarantee it's accurate) meant -

WHY are there so FEW complaints about this number and does anyone else have a CLUE who this is and what they want (i.e. what SCAM they are running?)

Are you looking for assistance, or merely a place at which you can complain or get "penpals"?

You have been given several options, other than returning here to argue.
Strongly suggest, if you are serious about reducing objectionable phone calls, you stop blaming others ... and take action yourself!

Here is a growing list of (mostly government) sites were you can report or learn more about such scams.
While you are at that site, look at the other pages as well, for good information on how to recognize or prevent scams.

Nope, I rarely get any telemarketers calling me these day's, might get 2 a month and those two are fairly predictable, medic/security alert & CCS scammers, rarely even see the same number twice.  And that is because I followed a lot of the info here from members. Its so small now, I haven't even bothered to buy a call blocker myself.  Slim and I are both volunteers here that attempt to help folks and volunteer solutions.

There has been a lot of threads here with similar themes, calls with no one on the other end and no explanations for who, what or why. We may never know bottom line. I do recommend you call your phone service provider about it though.
