This is a fraudulent company known as 5 Star Ventilation.  They offer to clean your chimney.  Don't be fooled by this scam.  Google chimney scams for more info.

good to know.  Thanks.  You'd think Chimney cleaners would be a smallish business and would stay close to home.  The caller ID came up as Adams Ma.  Which is a good hour 1 way from me.

Trying to sell me an FHA or VA mortgage

Thanks for this info.  We live in Berkshire County, of which Adams, MA is a part.  There is NO "776" exchange in Adams or any of Berkshire County locations, so this is the first clue that this was a scam. The above listed locations of Chicopee, Holyoke & Northhampton are all OUTSIDE of Berkshire County and are OVER an HOURS' drive away, even though we all share the 413 area code.   There is also no such company as "Five Star Ventilation" in Adams or anywhere in Berkshire County, either.  I know; I've called ALL the Chimney companies in our area this summer, trying to find someone to repair ours; unsuccessfully, so far, i might add.

SPOOFED number, FAKE 'company', TOTAL SCAM.

Called again this AM.  This time I picked up silently & just listened.  At least 20 seconds of dead air from a robocall.  Then, it 'connected' and I heard the background noise of a call center.  A man with a NYC accent asked for me BY NAME.  This is obviously coming from AMERICAN soil, and NOT India; for once.

I have NO IDEA who/where these people are, but they certainly are NOT in Adams, Ma, in Berkshire County, which has a population of LESS than 10,000 at the last census and NO call centers located there!  It is ILLEGAL to spoof a number for purposes of concealing who you are or where you are located for commerce reasons (only exceptions are for HIPPA & law enforcement reasons, I believe.).

We have had our home landline phone listed in ONLY our initials FOR DECADES, so don't know where they would have gotten my first name associated with that number.  I do enter sweeps, but use a COMPLETELY different number and usually only list my first initial for those, too.  We have NO outstanding debts, have a great credit score and are current on ALL our bills.   We have NEVER been in trouble with the law and have lived in our current home for over 30 years; so law enforcement could easily find us, if need be.  Very disconcerting.

WHY are calls coming from the US still ongoing?  WHY can't law enforcement find and shut those down?  Can't use the "Overseas" excuse on these calls!!!

Sorry you are wrong about the exchange. I have a 776 mobile phone number, which is a somewhat  recent exchange for Adams, where I live.

Oops!  You are right; there IS a new 776 cellphone exchange for Adams.  I *am* expecting a call back from a chimney guy in Adams, but he uses a different number - and business name.  THIS number NEVER leaves a message (third time calling yesterday afternoon while we were out - that's why I came back to this site) and when I try and call it back (just in case its 'my' guy's cell), I only get a busy signal - EVERY time.  I still think this call is a scam, but I haven't yet blocked this number - just in case its the guy I've been trying to get in touch with.  Just a coincidence that there is another chimney business in Adams, I think, but as far as I know he doesn't call himself "5-Star Ventilation."

They called and said they were from Microsoft.   Told me someone is trying to hack my computer and wanted me to turn it on so they could show me the "warnings". Normally a company that calls says upfront that the call may be recorded. Definitely a scam.   Weird that this same number is also a chimney sweep company.   They knew my email address.  That is scary.   Seems you can't trust anyone calling your phone.  This is my cell phone they called too.   Crazy!!

Calls every hour no one on the line and a busy signal when called back

I was very skeptical about doing business with a company over a cold call. They had a great deal running for $65 to clean my oil flue, after doing some research and the office manager providing me with all of their Angieslist info and ID# I hired them. I can truly say Gregory and Anthony the 2 technicians that came out were nothing but wonderful. I will be using this company every year and recommending them to my family and friends.

I'm sure you will, Mary. ...now clear this up for me:  your middle name is "SHILL", right?   Yeah, like we believe you and that statement about your "oil flue". Good luck scamming people with THAT story!

A previous "Mary" stated the caller is "Microsoft".  Please tell us how "Microsoft" can clean your oil flue?

Fake toner company known as Business Technologies trying to scam me and other colleagues at my work into purchasing toner from them. They call routinely from different numbers disguised as local calls, and use deceitful language to convince you that they are simply completing an order you made with them.
