Debt is civil, not criminal, so no, you are NOT going to be arrested.  If you're worried about losing your job, please do print up this forum thread and give a copy to your HR dept and/or manager.  You cannot be fired for being the victim of harassment by scammers!

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

I received a call from this person ..
Oriental sounding and very difficult to understand saying I was going to be arrested due to non paymt on a loan. He was very nasty about it also ( which got my red headed Irish up)... He could not even tell me what "loan" he was talking about.... He knew where  worked  too. After finding out this is a scam...I called them back with a few choice words .....and then he had the audacity to ask how much I charged for the night!!!!! SCUM BAG SCAMMERS!!!!!!!!!

These people called me and claimed that there was a lawsuit against me. They claimed that I was approved for a loan that I never received. What a scam!! I said that he was a liar and that it was a scam! He told me that I was a scam and then said my family was a scam, he then called me a bi***. What a loser!! Glad I changed my bank account!!

im at work this number keeps calling saying its a legal emergency. this crazy i owe no one as a matter a fact i should be the last person they try this scam on i work for a law firm debt consolidation (payday debt) so i know when smoke is being blown up my ass.

I received a call from this number. They claimed to be from Miller and Davidson Law Firm. They said I have a lawsuit against because of a payday loan from 9/19/2013. They said the lender is US Cash. The person that called me said his name is Robin Farker and then connected me with Sheldon a paralegal.  I called my local PD and filed a report. I hope these guys are caught and locked up.

I received two calls from this number, one on my work phone and one on my cell phone.  I haven't returned the call yet but it was a man calling himself "Adam Smith" with a thick Indian accent claiming that it is an extremely time-sensitive matter and that me or my attorney needs to return the call immediately or a report will be filed with the cops and I could lose my job and be arrested because of the fraud involved. He goes on to say that if he doesn't hear from me or my attorney, he wishes me luck.  What a bunch of crap.  The only fraud involved is coming from this number.  I'm glad I searched the internet about this scam so that I am armed when I do return the call.  These S.O.B.'s should be thrown in jail.

This # has called me no less than 6 times in the last 5minutes!!!!
I am at work and yes, they are threatening on their voice mails.
How do they get away with this???????

These people called me, scared me half to death, and proceeded to tell me all about my account information. they had the last four numbers of my checking account and the last four of my bank number. If anyone else is worried about this, ANYONE can get a hold of the last four digits of any of our information. They do not have your account info. Everyone please be safe, and don't worry.

All above is correct. I am a Federal Security Officer at a large Agency in DC and just received one of these stupid calls. There is little they can actually do to you with this information. As soon as I challenged them and indicated I knew it was a scam I was hung up on and did not hear back.
