I received a call from this number stating my computer is sending reports that there are several Microsoft errors & I need to press 1 to talk to someone. I hung up, tried to call back, & the number is not in service.

I get these calls all the time. I work for Microsoft so I know this is complete [***].  We do not call people on the phone to alert them that there are "viruses in your neighborhood".   Anyone calling you and making this claim is a CROOK.

Do not give them access to your computer or to your credit card.  If you have already done this call your credit card company.  If you have given them access to your computer, consider having your operating system reinstalled, for they may have left spyware on your computer.

Got a robo message from "Microsoft". Told me to press 1. A male answered and I said this is the County Attorney's office. He said something and I repeated this is the County Attorney's office...is there a problem. This person said "Oh I'm sorry...I have the wrong number and immediately hung up. LMBO

this call is one from the folks who try to take over your computer, by telling you that your computer is generating problems and they are microsoft engineers who can fix it.   yea, right.   Next - they'll try selling you some beach front property in Arizona!

I got a call but happened to be on the line so didn't answer it.  From looking at this, I am glad I didn't.  I have to say I do like saying County Attorney's Office.  I am sure that would get them off the phone quick.  I don't think Microsoft has to call people for business.

Got a call from this number saying they were from Microsoft which I knew was a lie.  I spoke to the person on the line to see what they would say. The guy on the other end wanted me to turn on my computer so he could tell me the "extent of the damage" from the virus and then I could subscribe to their service (hunh). I asked what the company name was and he got flustered. He said it was "Microgeek" ??? Then I asked if there was a number I could call them back on and he got cagey. So I told him I thought he was a liar who tries to defraud people and he ended the call. I tried reporting the number to the FTC, but there doesn't seem to be a way to report these things if you haven't already paid for a bogus service.
I know it's probably smarter to just hang up on these people, but I enjoy telling them that they suck.

In response to the author of 'Fake Number - safe to assume a robo calling telemarketer' - I have received a call from the same number, however, there is a live person with a heavy accent telling me there is a problem w/my computer & she would like to help.  I told her that I didn't believe her & hung up - because how would anyone know I'm having a problem, unless they get that info from a bonafide microsoft web site.  Scares!

Caller told me he was calling from Microsoft with a very thick accent.  He refused to give me a real phone number for him.  He wanted information regarding my home computer.  When I told him I would call the police about his call he hung up.

I just received an automated call from this number saying they are calling from Microsoft and that my computer was generating some type of trouble signal and that I should press 1 to continue.  I hung up.  The automated voice even had a foreign accent if that's even possible.  Figured it was a hoax.

I just come here to read the posts. Got Voipo so these calls are never problem. Even if it was Microsoft calling, they don't have anybody that can fix your computer. That's why people call me.
I listed this one under Non_profit Organization, because these people don't make enough money to keep their auto dialers running. Call Type: should also have options for Scammer, Spoofed, and Phishing.

    A concerned citizen.
Got a call from a "Microsoft" tech saying there was an issue with Microsoft update. (It's Windows Update. Strike #1) Caller ID said Unknown Caller from 415-111-2000 (Microsoft calling from a blocked ID? Strike #2) I asked some basic questions like what computer are you referring to? What OS are you referring to? (He could not answer the first one, only said Windows 7 Home Premium after me asking him 3x. (Strike #3, you're out!) At that point, I said he sounds like a scam artist, and he got testy and said "I can't help you, I don't have time for the likes of you." All with a heavy Indian accent.

These people got your phone number from your internet service provider because you're using voip for your phone service.
It started as a recording, then press one to talk to a live body. I'm calling my cable company right now to confirm.
