Claims it's the IRS. Tired of all the scam phone calls we get every single day. Clearly the Do Not Call Registry is a waste of time!

    Blocked Caller
Clearly a scam.  The IRS would not be calling me on my cell phone.

I called the number back and it went straight to a voicemail system with no greeting.

    I'm tired of this, too
IRS scam that I just reported to FTC.gov - pre-recorded Julie Smith basically threatened if we didn't return call to her IRS office phone # 415-251-8890.

The caller ID showed Private Name & Private Number, of course.

Do Not Call Registry is no different than anything else - the crooks don't pay attention to any rules or laws.

I hate to say this is a 'prank call' - stealing someone's private information is not a prank - it's a scam & attempted theft.

I got two calls early in the morning and they left a message claiming to be the IRS and to call back immediately.  When I called back I was told by "Officer John Smith" that this was, indeed, the IRS, as in the government's Internal Revenue Service, and asked if I had a case number, which they did not leave in the message.  So he then asked for my cell phone number.  I told him the information should be in his system under the number I was calling from and that I did not need to give him my phone number. After a few seconds he hung up on me.  I called back and had a long conversation with him (at this poing I was testing to see how far he would go) where he claimed I owed $7,992.82 in taxes and that an officer was going to come to my door and arrest me in 2 hours and I was going to jail.  I was cracking up.  This was a fellow with a heavy Indian accent.  I offered to pay right away and if he could take my payment over the phone, to which he gave me another number, 415-251-9049, and said to talk to Kenneth Webster and maybe he could help me avoid getting arrested (which he said the officer was on his way before).
This is a lame scam and I really hope people don't fall for it.

Same as you.  His name was Mark Brown.  Once I discovered it was a scam, I really want to call them back and ask why they didn't come arrest me, but my husband said don't waste my time.

I have received numerous phone calls from this number.  I listened to the message they left claiming they were from the IRS which I found funny (first red flag) since they usually mail letters so I called the number back and went straight to voice mail with no identification that it was the IRS(second red flag).  I got that bad feeling so I decided to google the number which led me here and I am glad to know my intuition was correct and this is a scam.  I did read that the IRS will always send a letter through the mail and never call a person via the phone.

Same as the people above, "officer Steve smith", from the "IRS" called me.  Claimed that we owe back taxes, and we don't respond to repeated phone calls, and that the officer was on the way to our house to take us to jail (which everyone knows of course, how things work in united states).  The dude had a strong Indian accent, so the generic name Steve smith seemed shady right away.  I actually called 911 in our area, just to see if w were the only ones with this kind of experience, and before I could even get the rest of the story out, the operator told me they had a bunch of calls regarding this very matter (surprise!!!).  So, your info got hacked.  Watch your bank account just in case, to make sure no unauthorized transactions take place.  But other than that, no need to worry :)

The caller called twice today and talked to my Mom the first time.  The second time she called she left a message on my answering machine.  The person said her name was Officer Julie Smith with the Internal Revenue Service.  She said it was important for me to return her call as It is time sensitive. She said: " Return this call before we take any action against you."
