Same here.  Leaving messages of being an IRS agent, and must call back immediately.  Sounds like, feels like, and is likely a scam.  IF it is the real IRS, they usually start with a letter to scare the bejesus out of you.

I keep getting a call asking for $8000 and saying they are sending the police right now. I don't understand what to do.

It's a scam.  The 415 area code is being used heavily by some of the criminals who try to extort money from people by fraudulently posing as Internal Revenue Service agents.  There are MANY "IRS scam" posts here at 800notes from different phone numbers in the 415 area code.

its a scam i just called them and called the irs and they confirmed that this number is not a legitimate number..do not give them ANY information

today I got a call from this number and they are rude and nasty. verbally abusive! the guy who claim Michael Johnson wouldn't give id # and told me that a sheriff is coming to my work, home and arrest me. it was very scary. called him back and he was very rude and nasty. he even said go under my desk and give a a [***]! for $4.00 wow! its is a SCAM. I called my tax guy and he said its a scam. IRS would never give you a phone call.

I received this phone call from a guy saying is David from the Irs in very broken English hardly I undestood, he left a message in my xfinity vm as follows

"This message is intended for Danielle this-is-tony(?). Daniel the very second you receive this message I need you audio retained attorney off record to return the call. The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive. My name is David Richard and I'm calling you from IRS. Thank you avenue(?) Service Department and hotline to my division is four one five oh 2519252. I repeat it's 4152519252. Don't try to disregard this message and do return the call as soon as possible before any kind of legal allegations take place. We have determined that that has been circling deficiency calling your income tax. Call us back as soon as possible. Goodbye and take care."
ps  if you don't call them back chances are they will focus in a easier scared target.. hope this works for you  , the Irs will send you a letter if they found problems in your income tax..

Person called me 2/13/2014, 3:00 pm identified Name Michael Johnson, I can tell you he is Indian speaks Gujarati language, asking money for 2010 IRS return. Refuge give any other detail, this is scam,

I received a message from 415-251-9252 an Indian guy could hardly understand him. He said my entire name and that he was IRS and the only other thing I could understand was to call back imminently and dont try to figure out this message. I called back and it rings than hangs up. Complete scam

I received a call on 2/15 at 6:50am from Susan Brown leaving a message to call back the IRS at 415 251 9252 looking for my husband and not to ignore this call.  I was wondering why the IRS would call us and not notify us in the mail.  Then I called back asking to confirm it was the IRS, Michael Johnson answered the phone.  He claimed I was being a stupid lady and that he would not be giving me any information and that I could wait til the sheriff's office can come and arrest both my husband and I.  I told him that in this day and age there was a lot of fraud and I would like him to give me verification that this was the IRS.  He called me a stupid lady giving him a hard time and not to call him back.  I told him that I would like to speak with his manager or supervisor.  He said I will not be receiving further information until the Sheriff contacts me.  I told him that I didn't appreciate them calling me and harassing me.   He told me not to call them back again and hung up.  I then found this blog and felt much better.  Unbelievable.

I got a call from this number. The first 2 times I let it go to the answering machine, on the third time I picked up the phone.  The guy on the other end spoke with heavy Indian accent, stating he is calling from IRS. He said this twice, from Internal Revenue Service.  Somehow he had our name.   Does anyone know how to stop VoIP calls coming from a spoofed caller ID?

Got a message also from heavily accented Indian guy saying he's from IRS and to not disregard this message.  Same spiel as other posters before me.  TOTAL SCAM!  Is there anything we can do to report them?  I'd like to send the same sheriff they threatened us with to really pay THEM a visit!  What scums!

This is a scam...they talk all nasty in Hindi. Beg for $1000 to send to his account because his mother need medical support. If you don't want to pay immediately, they will continue to scold you. Where to report this? innocent people are getting panic with these calls.

Susan Brown kept calling me too claiming to be from the IRS.  Heavy Indian accent.  Seriously, it's just a ridiculous scam.  Don't answer and don't return the phone call!

Yes, the same crazy called me multiple times and made IRS threats.
Definitely sounds illiterate and Engish is not his first language
I am not sure he is Gujarati Indian (I should know) but he is a certified nut case.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.
