DEA Warns Public of Extortion Scam by
DEA Special Agent Impersonators
The Drug Enforcement Administration is warning the public about criminals posing as DEA special agents or other law enforcement personnel as part of an international extortion scheme.
The criminals call the victims (who in most cases previously purchased drugs over the lnternet or by telephone) and identify themselves as DEA agents or law enforcement officials from other agencies. The impersonators inform their victims that purchasing drugs over the lnternet or by telephone is illegal, and that enforcement action will be taken against them unless they pay a fine. In most cases, the impersonators instruct their victims to pay the "fine" via wire transfer to a designated location, usually overseas. If victims refuse to send money, the impersonators often threaten to arrest them or search their property. Some victims who purchased their drugs using a credit card also reported fraudulent use of their credit cards.
Impersonating a federal agent is a violation of federal law. The public should be aware that no DEA agent will ever contact members of the public by telephone to demand money or any other form of payment.
The DEA reminds the public to use caution when purchasing controlled substance pharmaceuticals by telephone or through the Internet. It is illegal to purchase controlled substance pharmaceuticals online or by telephone unless very stringent requirements are met. And, all pharmacies that dispense controlled substance pharmaceuticals by means of the lnternet must be registered with DEA. By ordering any pharmaceutical medications online or by telephone from unknown entities, members of the public risk receiving unsafe, counterfeit, and/or ineffective drugs from criminals who operate outside the law. In addition, personal and financial information could be compromised.
Anyone receiving a telephone call from a person purporting to be a DEA special agent or other law enforcement official seeking money should refuse the demand and report the threat.

- Krysta| 1 replyPhone number (415) 746-6925 called me today and left a message stating his name was special agent art thomas from the DEA. I have already been scammed by these people in the past. Please make these degenerates stop calling. They need to be caught and penalized
- Madoggue replies to CindyI received the same call today threatening me with 5-15 years in prison for ordering amdien online several years ago, said DEA had raided a Dominican Republic pharmacial company and found I had bought illegal drugs from them ( have not!). they offered to "keep my name clean" for $7000. The wanted $1800 within an hour and a half sent via Western Union to avoid an arrest warrant, $3000 to avoid a search warrant, and $3000 to avoid extradition to Dominican Republic.
Mark Thomas was the one who called, and when I began to ask definitive questions he turned me over to Lance Molenkoft who became even more intimidating. Western Union says they get this fraud all the time. Their phone number is 414-746-6925. I think we should call them every few minutes just to keep their phone busy. I'll start tomorrow after I talk to the local DEA office. - Maddogguesee above:

This number is a YMax Corporation in CA phone number no surprise a telemarketing company. I reported to the DEA immediately.
- Caller: YMAX Corp, CA
- klmjust reported this - had a very intimidating voice mail that didnt make sense to me - looked it up and I am a target I suppose. San Fransisco DEA office said they are very familiar with these guys!!!!!!!!!!
- kathyThis has been happening to me for at least 5 years. I really should change my phone number.
The first time kinda scared me, but threats about a "grand jury hearing" seemed ridiculous. So I asked what is my SS # - he didn't know. I asked him what is my b-day; he hemmed and hawed, then lamely answered "you're ___ years old," which was incorrect.
DON'T SEND MONEY and don't waste telephone minutes calling them back. I'm so sorry for the people who have sent money. - MNLadyMark Thomas has called me 6 or so times this year. I had heard this was a scam of people impersonating DEA agents after I received my second call.
I have never returned their calls. If this were a REAL DEA agent, they would say, "We have tried to contact you X times over the last X months. We really need a call back from you at your very earliest convenience."
Scammers are lazy---and just say the same thing over and over. Not anything like I would imagine a real investigation might go. - Scam call againThis is not the first time I have received this type of call
this one from 415-746-6925, "Mark Thomas DEA agent"
SCAM- I had my attorneys and a private investigator check into last year- Caller: 415-746-6925
- M.FestaReceived call re: dea agent and on going investigation. That I should call them back immediately. I will be reporting this to the DEA immediately.
- Caller: DEA???
- BBQ MasterI couldn't believe what I was hearing when I received this call on my voice mail. It showed on the caller ID as Lucasfilm. The person who call this time was James Redfield, not Mark Thomas as in the other cases reported here. I had heard about this type of scam before, so I figured I would check here first. One of the clues that something was a bit off is he asked for my middle name which I never use for any reason. I'm a bit surprised that since the DEA knows about this scam that they don't conduct a sting and nail these [***].
