- Mike| 2 repliesTrying to get me to pay a student loan that was already paid back. Total scam. Don't talk to them
- Caller: EOS-NCN
- Call type: Debt collector
- Jeff replies to MikeHow you think they got your number??? and how did they know you had a student loan??
- MerrikateNo message from this unknown number, and when I call back -- just rings OFF. Mike may be right, as collection agencies who buy the rights to collect student debts do not care at all if they've got the correct info or the correct phone number for the debtor in question. Anyone with a similar name (and sometimes not even that) gets the calls. They routinely assume their info to be accurate, and just keep calling forever and ever ... automatic dialling. Why this does not qualify as harassment, I have never understood. To avoid people disregarding calls, these companies also often change the number from which they're calling. "Just doing their job," maybe -- AND harassing uninvolved people like us.
- Caller: ????
- JamesThey called me today and it was a recording wanting me to call a 1-800 number. The recording mentioned the company they represented but I didn't catch it. The 1-800 number I wasn't able to write down either. Just grateful to sites like this that have forms that can be filled out to let other people know of shady telephone numbers.
- S.A.C. New WestReceived a call from them today. Didn't answer. Never had a student loan but my daughter once put me down as a personal contact for one. Is this a scam related to the recent lost data of some half a million student loan applicants/recipients? Human Resources and Skills Development, under MP Diane Findlay, lost the data. She says in the House of Commons that there has not been a breach of security to their knowledge. If you have concerns please write to any opposition MP in or closest to your home town. do not write a Conservative as it will be covered up. Peace

- PenI never ever answer phone numbers I don't recognize and this one is no exception. Received a call from this number yesterday - they left a message - a lot of dead air before my voice mail timed out. Very annoying. And that's putting it mildly.
- Me!Not sure what they wanted. Stayed on the phone for 30 seconds and kept saying hello.... Nothing, just dead air.
- jjYeah make it a practise to not answer numbers you don't recognise or are expecting. This probably isn't a scam but rather another one of the many harrassing entrapping techniques used by collection agencies. I've been recieving calls from other companies as well on my cell phone for the past year, apparently someone who had my number racked up some debt and the agencies who make the calls are trained to not believe you if you tell them your not that person. I firmly believe that collection agencies are the scum of the business world and they deserve to bear the weight of the debt due to there unrelentless and extremely unprofessional behaviour. Maybe if they were actual business professionals instead of telemarketing agencies making the calls they might actually convince some people to repay there debts. Oh well, I guess the cycle just goes on and on, ever wonder how much these stupid companies waist on calling people day in and day out to collect a few bucks owed from years ago? Lol not the best business plan I've ever heard of but then again what does it matter cause there part of the problem of big corporations getting huge tax breaks because of a weak and loophole riddled system. FYI, did you know that the government actually owns or has particular interest in many of the collections and telemarketing agencies? Hope you have eyes in the back of your head!
