416-477-2174

Received a message on my answering machine from 416-477-2174 and the individual identified themselves as Officer John Parker and indicated that I, or my attorney needed to return the call asap.  According to postings of different phone numbers but the same individual's name used, this is a scam and no one should call this number back.

Same here, I called back under another number and asked them to identify themselves and they never did.

BTW John Parker has an Asian accent. Not too swift

I too got two phone calls today from 1-416-477-2174. A recording comes on saying they are from RCA, and you need to call back asap. My husband did. A asian guy spoke saying he was a Officer, asking for a the initial of a person in your house with a last name. I asked him to tell me who they were looking for he could not say. He said "You tell me". I said No I don't think so you called me. I asked him if I could speak to his supervisor and what would his name be, he said "I was wasting his time", and would be dealing with the RCMP, I said fine, bring them on then, and hung up. They are trying to disguise them selves saying they are from Revenue Canada Agency. Have your telephone company block the number

I too received a call this morning at 9:30 from a CRA agent named John Parker - I spent almost an hour on the phone with him.  he claimed an RCMP officer will be arresting me within 30 mins.  he read me the charges (tax fraud) called it a felony and if I hold on, maybe his supervisor can fix the situation for me.  about 10 mins later agent Ian Morgan (btw- both had Asian accents with English names...pretty stupid on their part) told me that this is very serious and I need to be prepared.  I tried to ask as many questions as possible to try and see if they'd get messed up.   I was expecting at this point they'd ask me for a credit card or something to clear up this situation (they told me it was $1945.00) but I think because I gave them such a hard time they didn't...seems like they were just trying to scare me at that point.   I called the CRA and they said my file was clean  - which I knew all along.  The funny thing was that when I returned from shopping a few hours later, another message from John Parker was left on my machine !!!  lol  these jerks need to keep better records of who they've traumatized !  THESE SCUMBAGS NEED TO BE STOPPED !!!
FYI - the call display indicated 416-477-2174, and the number they wanted me to call them back on was 416-477-6895

Caller claims CRA 416-477-2174  and has  home address and is a Tamil or Sri Lankan guy asking for $4800.

Yes, I got a call from this number too, and John Parker left a message.   He had an Indian accent.  He neither identified himself nor offer to say what the problem is.  He just kept saying that if I don't call back then I would be in trouble.
Block this number, I look forward to taking a strip off of this [***] on his next call.

Called me in Vancouver at 7:30AM on my day off with a recorded message about some urgent matter - no reference as to who they are trying to reach. Such A**holes for waking me up. Called again 1 1/2 later with same recorded messsage.  Don't call back!!!

As a retired CRA officer I knew it was a scam. First indication was they did not specify who they want to talk to, the CRA always ask for the specific person.

Second, they will confirm the identity of the person speaking with some private information from your tax file such as SIN number and income before going into specifics.

Third was that it was a recorded message... never done.

Fourth was a 416 number from Toronto calling Vancouver. The CRA has offices in all the major centres so a local number should be calling me not Toronto about my tax matters.

Fifth, CRA  never threatens to take action by phone call it is done by mail to ensure there is hard evidence if it goes to court. Also you do not get arrested for minor tax disputes or unpaid taxes. Only tax frauds are criminal and only after you've been investigated, served with court proceedings and found guilty would you be fined or jailed.

Today, call from this number all serious and a bit garbled. Listened until the Asian accented male voice used the term "attorney" then I knew it was bs. Canada uses the term lawyer or "barristers and solicitors", not attorney's.

Just got this scam call too! It would be good to do something with this number as a protection to others who may pannic upon such a call! Shame we live in such a wicked world!

I also just received a v-msg from this number.  While these calls are annoying and s/b ignored and blocked, what bothers me most is what they may be doing with any money they receive.  Are they funding terrorists?  Are CSIS or the RCMP watching them?

Also received 3 recorded voice messages from this number; same stupid clumsy story, obviously a scammer therefore I did not respond. How can we trap these people?

not sure what an Asian accent has to do with anything.  lots of CRA employees have accents.  sounds a bit racist on your part Bill.
