Please note, I am simply repeating interesting information found in the previous threads that seems to be quite relevant.
By now, everybody knows that it is a company called Optima Communications International.
http://www.optima.net/contact.html Here are suggestions if you receive calls from this number.
#1: Do not answer.
From what I have read, this seems to be the safest option for the protection of your identity. If you do answer, several things happen. First, they are gathering information about your schedule. If you always miss calls at 12 P.M., 2 P.M., 4 P.M. on weekdays but answer calls after 5 P.M. on a regular basis and any time on the weekend, you have just provided them with a good model of your typical schedule.
#2: Do not answer any questions if you do answer their call
Do not even acknowledge your own name. This will confirm that they have the correct name on their list, matching you with your name and number. If you mistakenly do this, they have two items of identification that have been confirmed.
#3: "Do not call" list.
While asking to be added to their list may sound like the right thing to do, several people who have commented above and on other web sites have said that this did not solve their problem. By asking to be placed on their "Do not call" list, you are simply confirming confidential information about yourself.
What can you do?
These unsolicited attacks on our private life are really difficult to stop with our current legal system. Unfortunately, your choices are limited.
#4 Contact the CMA.
Respectable marketing agencies will be registered with the Canadian Marketing Association. Here, you may fill out a form asking to be placed on the Canadian “Do not call” list. The following is from their website:
http://www.the-cma.org/“The Canadian Marketing Association does not own, compile, prepare or rent lists of consumers' names and addresses. CMA is a private trade association funded by its members. We offer the Do Not Contact Service free of charge to consumers. If you wish to have your name removed from new contact lists acquired by our members, please follow the registration instructions.”
Unfortunately, the keyword here is ‘respectable’. I doubt that this company would be registered with the CMA.
#5 Contact you telephone provider.
It may be possible to block individual numbers with your telephone provider. Contact them to find out.
#6 Block the number from within your phone.
The chances are that if your phone has this feature, you have already enabled it.
Take note:
The following numbers have also been listed in previous comments as telemarketers. I cannot guarantee the validity of this post but assume that there is no harm in assuming that they are telemarketers and that you should ignore any incoming calls.
(416) 581-1076
(416) 825-8285
(416) 777-2676
(416) 615-0300
(416) 615-0400
Thanks to "In trouble for posting their numbers?", who did some research above, we have some numbers to contact. They are:
Dun and Bradstreet
Steven Camaridge (866) 573-5407 ext 3065
Dee Prosser (610) 882-6504
(800) 234-3867
(866) 573-5407
Please note, if many, many people call, they might get the message. It is important, while calling, to remain calm and respectful. You can go a lot further, speak to more important people when you are in control of the conversation. Getting angry indicates that you have lost control and usually results in the call being terminated with nothing gained.
Remember, protect your personal information!
